Can anyone give me a ballpark estimate of how much it takes to board and care for a horse per a month?

Well where do you live? Different areas have different prices for boarding. In New York it ranges from $500 to $600 a month for boarding. That does not include the vet bill, feed, hay, shoes/triming, or grooming supplies. Horses are very expensive animals to have. Then there are other states where for the same thing you get in NY it will be about $250 or so a month. So it really depends on your location. You just have to remember that there are tons of extra bills that come with owning a horse.

I will ask a friend who lives down there and get back to you here shortly.

I talked to a few friends from FL and they said it usually starts out around $400 for a good place.

Boarding generally costs around $300-$400 for a feild board (no stall or feed besides grass and perhaps hay) and around $500-$700 for a full board (stall in barn and feed generally included; as well as a pasture.) Priced can range higher and lower, however, and do not forget vet, farrier, dewormers, and shot bills; etc.

I have a basic board in Long Beach, CA. Its $300 per month but it includes nothing but a roof over my horse's head. I have to still go down and feed and turn out daily as well as pay all the farrier bills. Its very expensive..
