PTR? Is this the trend for making money?

I am always scouting around for great opportunities to make extra cash. And looking around at the many great posts, I realised that PTR is all the rage. Everyone is into such programs. I guess there is money to be made, but there is one shortfall. It is tedious and you don't earn much? However, it that is the case, then why is everyone only looking at such ways to make money. I strongly believe that the internet is a great gateway filled with opportunities to make a great living. However I am sure that such opportunities are not only confined to PTRs. Do you agree with this? Do share your thoughts.
