that's right, Michael Jackson was considered for the Role of Jareth. *shudders* that would be a bit too sinister, don't you think?

Wow, I'm trying really hard to picture that! Nope, I just can't wrap my mind around it! LOL I think David Bowie gave it a very nice touch, almost a bit feminine, exotic, and very elegant. Everytime I watch it I really start to feel sorry for Jareth when he pleads with her to just "love me, fear me..."

I get a bit tearful near the end. I feel so sad for Jareth. especially at the end with the owl looking in the window

Exactly! My ex could never understand why I felt sad for Jareth in the end saying he was an s.o.b., etc. (which maybe points towards a character flaw that helped make him my ex! LOL) He's the GOBLIN KING, though!! He can't help being what he is and yet yearns for someone of his own, wanting love but not really understanding it...gets me all sniffley.

David Bowie was creepy enough. I actually stole a couple of young cats that the previous owners named Sarah & Jareth. The problem was that the big yellow kitten they named Sarah was a boy & the tiny black & while one they named Jareth was a girl.... We changed his name to Singer & her's to Jellibaby.

Oh, and wasn't that crystal thing they had him do with his fingers (actually saw the magician they used the hands of for that once on TV) AWESOME??? Then again, they have people do the hands of actors all the time it seems, I met a lady here in town that was an extra on a movie who did extra work by doing the hand "stand-in" work for the main actress.

contact juggling, they call it. on one very long, very delayed train journey there was a bloke on the train that was a contact juggling performer. he decided to give us all a bit of a show, and it was excellent. I can do 2, but not 3, let alone more, and nothing fancy, just a circle.

Jareth - Wallpaper I did of David Bowie as Jareth in the movie Labyrinth
Eww is all I can say. If he had done the movie I think it would have bombed. It just wouldn't have been the same. David Bowie was perfect in the role of Jareth. He made that movie as good as it was between his actind, looks, and songs. Michael Jackson would just not have been right.

Oh my, what a horribly creepy thought. I have to say I'm pretty glad things didn't go in that direction. I mean David Bowie is creepy in the role of Jareth, but in a good way!

exactly. I watched it yesterday, and found myself thinking how much it would have ruined a lot of good memories for me. I love that film so much. and David Bowie is perfect in the role.

At the time i don't think it would ahve been sinister, but with hindsight i think it would seem sinister to us now looking back on that movied if he'd played him instead of Bowie, who, btw, i thought played the part excellently. Actually i really love that movie and it's about time i saw it again! A true classic.

Hehe. I don't dislike Mr Jackson myself, but yeah..somehow that role on him...seems rather more sinister than it was with David Bowie. Bowie made the character look properly villainous but appealing at the same time. I'm not sure if Jackson could pull it off...I dunno. Actors and character roles are funny, sometimes the best actor can be completely wrong for a role, and sometimes the most inexperienced can be the best. It's strange. I like to believe that the characters pick their actors, and the movie-makers just sometimes screw up and don't listen to them lol.

Ewwwww..... Micheal Jackson in the role of Jareth...... No...... phew its only a nightmare - I dont think the movie would have been anywhere near as good if the had used him instead, I dont usually like bowie but the labyrinth songs and all was brilliant

It would have been terrible if Jackson had played him, our childhoods would not have been the same! I've seen some of the Jackson kids movies or at least clips of them and they do look creepy.

That would ahve been so different! And definately would NOT be the same. Especially for today's viewing. At the time maybe not so bad. I'm glad that he wasn't Jareth though :)
