Does it drive you crazy when you constantly see mispelled words in a discussion?I'm a perfectionist or at least I want to be and it drives me insane when I see a bunch of mispelled words in a discussion or someone elses comment. I know there are times that I haven't caught my errors before I posted my discussions and it makes me so mad, I want to delete it and start all over but I haven't figured out how.

why would it drive me crazy if i'll see mispelled words in every discussions i'l' read or responded into. everyone has the right to commit mistake and nobody in this world is perfect. and being perfectionist is not good you see. take care.

I still respond to them too. I hate being a perfectionist when it comes to writing and typing.

No it does not bother me, I for one, can run my fingers faster sometimes than my brain thinks or vice versa. Some days the brain finger connection is not coming through. As long as I can read the post in an intelligent way, I can carry on a conversation. Spelling and grammar has nothing to do with what a person has to say or how valid his/her opinions.

You're right it doesn't have anything to do with how valid his/her opinion is. I guess its just something that drives me crazy cause I'm a perfectionist when it comes to writing or typing. It drives my hubby insane and my brother's finance. She watched me go through 4 or 5 sheets of paper just tonight cause I didn't like the way my handwriting was.

DANG IT! I made a typo. That was suppose to be my brother's fiance not finance!! Argh! I hate myself right now for that!!

I understand what you mean. I try and spell-check all my work. Of course being a writer...I have to try and make sure that all my work is correct...especially sending it out. It doesn't look good if you have mispelled words...if you are proclaiming to be a writer...lol.

Yea, being a writer and having a bunch of mispelled words really doesn't go well together. :)

You cannot delete your discussions. You can preview your response before posting it. You have to remember there are people here from many different countries whose first language is not English. I know it is frustrating trying to read some of the discussions and I am a perfectionist as well, but these people are making the effort to learn English and we should give them props for that.

I'm not just talking about on here. I understand if someone is from another country and is trying to make an effort in learning English.

You go through way to much paper when you practice your writing. I make mistakes on here sometimes spelling and that's because I think a little faster than I type. Yes the mistakes bug me but oh well I can't do anything. Now yes you are a perfectionist when it comes to spelling and writing!! LOL I can't believe you wasted that much paper tonight. hah

No, it doesn`t bother me so much. I think people who mispell words can have a good opinion. So I read between lines, too. I try to correct politely but mainly mistakes in logical thinking.

I can't complain because I do it all the time. It's not that I'm a bad speller, I'm just a horrible typer and I often transpose letters or miss letters entirely because I try to type so quickly and end up making mistakes. It would be nice to see an edit feature added so that you could go back and correct those typos. I think I got through this one without a mistake....was very careful here given the original nature of the discussion....LOL

Yes, an edit button would be nice and also spell check. :) Maybe its something mylot can look into here in the near future.

Ooh we're going to be so unpopular with the lazy spellers of myLot LOL! I really hate seeing people write I as i. Where on earth are you taught that I (when referring to oneself) can be typed as i. This is not a text messaging service. I tend to avoid discussions with text speak. If I want to respond to text messages I'll do it on my phone not on a forum like myLot. I don't mind one or two errors in a discussion but I've seen posts with every other word spelt incorrectly and it's obvious the writer has English as their first language! It should put people to shame that people who don't have English as a first language can make the effort to write good English with legible grammar and others just slap a few words together on the screen and expect people to respond to those discussions... :)

i wish we had an edit function on mylot. i know i'll flub words occasionally if i'm typing fast.i usually see it the brief second before it goes live LOL errors usually don't bother me unless it's the whole thing.i've seen a couple that were entirely unreadable.

Hahaha. No it doesn't drive me crazy. I don't mind as long as I know what they are talking about.

I see where you are coming from. It can be very aggrevating (hope I spelled that right) to try to read responses and not know what they are trying to say because of all the mispelled words. I try to make sure I don't have any typos, but like you said I sometimes miss them before I hit post and then it is too late.

Yup,i have to agree withu on this...i just hate to see misspelt words anywhere in the discussion, especially if ur starting one! It creates an odd impression and might even lead to many people lke me not responding even if it is an interesting subject!

erros are inevitable. these are part of our lives. but as a cliche: practice makes perfect. you need to concentrate more with regards of spelling out words. if you're determine and willing to improve those errors, well, things will go on your stride. just believe in yourself.

Mispelling doesn't make me crazy. My native language is not English, so I might make a lot of mispelling. But what I don't like is: "r u doing this 4 ur laif or just b/c u lik 2 c h0w will I react?" This kind of typing piss me off! To the hell with these languages!

I have to agree with you there. That isn't a real language, its all the short cuts for instant messaging!

It depends. I hate it when people do it as chat speak, where it's on purpose. But as long as people are actually making a good attempt, I'm happy.

I don't get irritated or upset when I see that someone else has made a mistake in mispelling a word. I do however get frustrated at myself for not being able to avoid typos or mispelling. I always try to catch my mistakes before I hit post response. Needless to say I think that I need to slow down a little to avoid the mistakes.
