Time to paint your home again... what colours would you choose?

My poor walls haven't been painted in almost 10 years. They really need a fresh coat of paint.
In the last 10 years I have lived with off whites - choosing the safe was my motto at that time - but now I want some colour, bold even. I've been looking at many colours and have found a few that I think I will go with. There isn't one off white in the group:)
What about you, if you were going to repaint the walls what type of colours would you choose: safe, traditional, bold, contrasting colours, completementing?

I might try giving each room a different color. I might give bright colors to most of the rooms but I'd try to give milder colors to the bedrooms as it would be more relaxing, as it has been proved that the colors of the walls can influence your mood. I'm thinking the bedroom could have a sea theme, light blues on the walls... Like that after a tiring day I could go to my bedroom and relax with all the calming themes. If I have any kids at the time I'd let them personalize their rooms with some finger painting or something like that. It's just an idea, I don't even have my own place yet ):

Well, it is a very good idea you have there. I do agree with you.
I had my room blue for quite a while, so I 'm looking for another color now although it is true that it does have a calming effect.
MY kids did personalize their rooms. It was fun and we all loved it. MY daughter had a real work of art on her room, she wanted green in the bottom with flowers and ladybugs and butterflies and blue as it went up with clouds and birds. We got that:) Then later she wanted her room with the colours of the Maple leafs, our hockey team.
My son preferred it one color only with an area on the wall for him to draw. We got that paper that we use to line shelves and drawers. It uses static electricity to stay put and we could take it out without damaging the walls when it was full and add a new one.

My partner and I are planing to re-decorate soon and we have chosen the colours for our living room. A single feature wall in a rich red and the remaining three is a pale stone grey, with red curtains and cushions. Our bedroom is shades of purple, lilac, lavender with black drapes and a black fur throw on the bed. You can't beat a splash of strong colour to enliven a tired decor :-)

I'm not very adventurous at all, I think in general I always stick with white walls becuase it's easier to match things too.

Actually we just painted the outside of our house about a month ago. The main color is dark brown called Walnut. Then the trim was done in a beige/tan color called Natural Bark. And our doors were painted dark green called "Emotion". The colors we choose really make the house look like a country home.

I must admit, I'm very partial to maroon. However, in general, I'd take the complementing colors. Contrasting is a bit too bold, and can end up really gaudy if you don't do it right, but complementing colors can be just nice enough to make a room pop, but not make it an eyesore.
I envy your off-white walls, truthfully. The last person who owned our house before us was very fond of pink, so now my mom and dad's room is pink, as well as the dining room, the kitchen, and now a piece of the living room. All that pink seriously jeopardizes the resail value, I'm sure.

LOL how can you live with all that pink? hehe
I like complementing colors too it is safe. But sometimes I like to go bold and work with contrasting colors. I tend to try it on first in paper or on the computer to get the idea of how it will work.
I have been playing it safe with colors in our house since we got here, but now I"m feeling a bit more adventurous :)

I need to paint every room in this house, including the sun porch! There's so much to do that I'm having trouble getting started. The one thing I do know is that I'm going with a sort of "Tuscan" pallette---you know, warm golds, bronzes, terra cottas, olives, creams and some grape accents. These seem like the best choices for my home. I went out and got lots of paint chip samples in these tones and it was easy to pick a primary color from them for each room and an accent color or two from among them as well. I don't believe I've ever tried a color scheme that was so easy to work with.
Good luck on your decisions. I hope you feel as good about them as I do about mine.
smiles,
ink

That is one of my preferred pallettes too:)and in the end I might go with something like that here too, although I was more thinking in terms of reds browns etc.
TO be honest I will feel good with anything right now. MY house hasn't been painted in over 10 years !!!ANything will make it look better. Unfortunately it might have to wait a bit more still. THings are not at their best right now ...

I am in the process of repainting my house room by room as I type. The whole house was a yucky yellow color. With smoke stained on the walls. I am covering everything up with kills. Than my daughters room was redone with pink paint. White trim and ceiling. The next room is having kills added now. It will be a green and a white color. Like my daughters but green instead of pink. The next bedroom with be of colors for Ohio state university. The living room will be white or an eggshell white. It brightens the room up. The kitchen with be white. Or I am thinking a possibly a light green to go with how I have it decorated.

I need to paint as well. When I did a major paint project last, I chose a soft peach, which worked nearly as well as off white as far as going with all the things in my decor, and not clashing. I would like, I think. to paint my entry way celery green. What colors are you thinking of?

My kitchen is yellow and would stay the same color. All of the bathrooms are light blue and would like them to be a brighter color. The bedrooms are white and what a hard color to keep clean, so would like them to be a darker color. I like safe colors, so they won't be eye opening walls.

Well we just had a repaint of our house a few months ago, chose all those lively, contrasting colors. Sunshine yellow, aquamarine, green and orange went to different places inside our house. You should try that too, it's fun experimenting on colors and it looks nice and very lively really. Cool to the eyes. (",)

I'll choose powder blue for my room, dirty white for kitchen, any dark colors for my living room.
