I was just thinking about this. As a teen I did not get along with my mother at all and then we got along off and on for a few years. The last couple years seemed a little more difficult, she would just drive me crazy with everything she said and I couldn't figure it out. Lately though it's been great again, we found something in common and we've been having a lot of fun with it. I find that if my expectations are more realistic with her then we do better. I want to have a good relationship with her so it makes me really happy that things are really good lately.

Now that I am older I also see that my expectations of my Mom have changed and she is now more needy. Her mental health is not good and at times it is hard to keep my patience so I bite my tongue, smile and cry when I can go somewhere alone. It is nice that you can do something with your mom and she can focus on it, Enjoy them. I remember those times with my Mom, and I cherish them.

During my childhood, my mother was a single Mom, she held down a full time job, cooked meals, kept the house clean, and still found the time to play with us....I mean that even when I was 11-12 yr. old .....I remember jumping off her shoulders and diving under and tackling each other under water in our favorite swimming hole....
Almost 16 years ago, she suffered from an aneursym, we were lucky and she survived without alot of long term physical afflictions (she is weaker on her right side); but she did loose her short term memory and has lived with me for many years.....
She and I are as close as we can be...I take care of her each day....I know that she is happy here.....and that this is the one place in the world that she wants to be in.....she can not make major decisions in her life so I make sure that she has all the choices she can have every day and always show her the respoct she deserves...after all, she is my Mom and I love her dearly!!
