They are similar but not the same. peter can absorb powers by proximity wheras sylar needs to make a kill to do so. Also, pete can regnerate. It may be incredibly difficult to kill sylar, but assuming they can corner him, and over power him, there's no reason they can't kill him.

I think Sylar will kill himself due to his greed for all the powers he culd get his hands on. You'll see... hehe. Peter is already able to control his accumulated powers and there's no alteration of any, its his power to learn other people powers while Sylar is stealing what's not his in the first place. Don't think his body could that that much of destructive powers hence will end up killing himself.

I suppose you can call it stealing. However you can also see it as he was studying how they work and then he does the same thing so he has the same powers. After all his power is just to understand how things work. He has to open other heroe's head to learn their power.

The obvious answer is Peter, but I have a feeling that we will find out it is someone else who will actually be able to defeat Sylar...the foreshadowing in ".07%" seems to indicate a special weakness that one of the other heroes will be able to exploit. Peter v Sylar doesn't really fit with what Isaac said. It would just be superman versus superman - a slugfest and a great battle, but not really mysterious....hmmm I can't wait to find out!

Don't want to spoil for our overseas friends, but I don't think it's Peter. That would be too obvious. Isaac said he would show the heroes how to stop Sylar, which implies something not so simple as "beat him up Pete". That's why I think it's NOT Peter.

Don't he have to see Sylar use his powers? He only gets them by seeing it doesn't he? I haven't seen Peter having very sensitive hearings yet. Sylar has them but Peter didn't.

i really believe that only peter petrelli has the ability to do so. i mean, he's a sponge. he absorbs the powers of others and takes them as his own without killing anyone. so in a way, he's pretty much like sylar. only, he doesn't have to be so brutal about taking powers. but see, i think that the only way to stop sylar is for peter to be just as brutal as sylar. to do to sylar the things that sylar is doing to others. i think it's the only way sylar will ever be stopped.

We get the answer by watching the promo for episode 21!
There it says MOLLY is the only one who can stop Sylar.
Do you guys remember her? She is the little girl Parkman found on the day he started to read minds! Her parents were killed and she was hidden inside of a closet. Parkman heard she saying she was scared.
Later, Sylar tried to get her in the police department (I think), where she was under the police protection. So Parkman and the character of Clea DuVall stopped Sylar there.
