Absolute terror -- Has this ever happened to you?

I remember many years ago, when I was in college, I woke up in the middle of the night and I was unable to move. I could see a dark shape at the foot of my bed and I sensed that it was not friendly. I struggled to move and was unable to even blink my eyes. I was so terrified! I think that is the most scared I have ever been in my life and I have had many reasons to be afraid! I was finally able to blink my eyes and the "spell" was broken. The "thing" at the foot of my bed shot out my bedroom door and was gone. This happened every night for about a week and has never happened again. But then several years later, a co-worked related a similar story only this "thing" was hanging from the ceiling looking down on her. Has this ever happened to anyone else?
