Mother’s day is always on a Sunday and this year is no exception. It falls on Monday May 13 for the year 2007. Each year, this day is set apart to honor all mother’s. As I was pondering the upcoming Mothers day, I was thinking of all the women who for some reason were not able to have children of their own. Why should they be left out of the celebrating and honoring, that has been traditional for years? They shouldn’t because each of us have a different definition of what a “mother’ is to us.
In order to understand Mothers Day, we must first understand what it really means to be a mother. You need to understand the person in your life who has held the title of “Mother”. For me, The following describes my mother and I am thankful every day for her strength and love. While growing up, I did not see how much she loved me and only wanted the best for me. I have only come to appreciate this as I have grown older and hopefully wiser. The following is what my mother is to me. This is my definition of “Mother”.
What is a Mother?
A mother is one who nurtures you in her womb for nine months.
A mother is one who brings you into morality to enjoy the wonderful blessings on earth can give you, this blessing is called “life”.
A mother is one who gently guides you through the infant years and helps you to become the person that you are today.
A mother hold the title of “Guardian Angel” because she protects and supports you. She silently serves you in many ways. She cares for you and helps you to mature to be a strong and individual person. She smiles a smile that i warms your soul and you feel safe. She takes pride in every new accomplishment that you make because in her heart, she knew you could do it.
Why is Mother’s day only once a year when a Mother cares for you every day while you are growing up to full maturity.?
Mother’s Day is a day that has been set aside to honor and thank the person who helped to make you what you are today.
Mothers Day is the day that we should feel grateful to Heavenly Father who has blessed us with an angel that we call “Mother”. A wonderful woman who gave more than she ask in return.
The National Retail Foundation predicts Mothers Day is a $14 Billion industry.
Florists see their highest sales in May.
US restaurants claim that it is the busiest day of the year. Long distance telephone calls also peek on Mothers day.
The US Postal Service experiences increased volume during the surrounding days.
According to Hallmark, 96 % of American consumers take part in shopping on Mother’s Day, while retailers report it as the second highest gift giving day of the year only to be outdone by Christmas.
Why is it that we feel the need to spend money instead of time with our mother?
Remember the women in your life who has made a positive impact on the person whom you have become. Remember to take the time this mother’s day to say the simple words “Thank You”. Because there were probably many times that you did not show the gratitude that this women deserved. I know in my life, this is true.

That was beautiful. Thank you for sharing!
And I agree. Even if a woman is not a mother...she may be a person that someone has looked up to as a mother figure. I think this would be a great time to offer that person also the loving support of celebrating Mother's Day.
I hope that one day, my children will grow to truly appreciate Mother's Day.
Right now, they are a little young to comprehend. Even my two teen boys still seem to have their heads up in the clouds about it. Sure, they know the"right thing to do". But the day that there is meaning behind it, it will be the Mother's Day to remember.

That is very encouraging. I guess I will have to wait it out for them to go to college. ha ha The eldest is not that far off. So, hopefully I do not have to wait too much longer then.
Thanks! :)

Tia,
I remember those days when my kids were growing up. It seemed that when they were in college, they had a "AWW" moment and they have appreciated me more ever since.

Great article Villageanne!
Thank you for taking the time to post this, I enjoyed reading it.
I would never have imagined Mothers Day being a 14 billion dollar industry, that amazes me.

I know, that sounds like alot of money to me. I wonder why we feel the need to spend so much money instead of spending time with our mothers. We always try to spend time with my mom on mohters day. We usually have a cook our and all our family gathers at Mom and Dads. We always have a wonderful time.

Hi Villageanne, I did a great big long depressing story and needed to find out how to spell maulin and lost it , its just as well it was a 10 minute pity party, Best to keep them short. I am a mother and my children are parents, so we at least have an understanding of what a parent is not necessarily should be. I know my children did learn a lot from their father who in my humble opinion is a worthless old man who makes his living off any one he can con, So my children were exposed to this and made a firm decision on what not to be in life. The old saying we lead by example is very true, they didn't like what they saw and followed another lead.

that was really beautiful. Although,my mother is no longer with me,I still honor her on mother's day. She has never stopped being a mother just because I can no longer see her. I think of her every day & we still honor her memory on mother's day.

You will see your mother again after this life is over. She is not that far away and she knows that you love her. She will be there to greet you when you go through the vail from this life to the next. I hope that gives you comfort.

Every year at Mother's day....our church in Florida would do carnations for all the mother's in the sanctuary. Then they would do potted african violets for the oldest , youngest, one with the most children, most grandchildren etc....
THEN, they would ask all the women over the age of 30 that had not ever had a child to stand. Each of those women would get a red rose. Because our pastor said they were the "Mother's" to all.
I thought it was a sweet tradition, and kept them from feeling left out.

I agree with your Pastor. They used to let anyone who wanted to, talk about their mother during church on Mothers day. I loved it when my kids were at home and they would get up and say how much they loved and appreciated me as a mother. But when they got married and moved away. Mother's day at church was just a disappointment for me. Nobody was there to say nice things about me and I felt left out. I share this with you because I realized how important it was to let every Woman kwno of her eternal worth as a mother even if she does not have kids there to speak kind words. That process at church has now chnaged and I am glad. We also give Carnations to all women. Being a Woman is a great honor! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me.

when you say a mother is someone who nurtures you in the womb you automatically exclude all the other women who could not or did not carry your in the womb.
My grandmother was my mother she was there to raise me, to nurse me when I was ill craddle me in her arms kiss, me, hug me support me, and teach me all the things I needed to know. When I needed her she was there. No biological mother could ever have done more for me then she did.
Some children have step mothers that do that for them,
some have wonderful people like mother theresa, or a nurse, a friend, a teacher, a lunch mother, or a friend's mother who have done that for them.
\There was an elderly woman in my neighbourhood who had no children of her own but she always had a gang of kids hanging around. She was everyone's mother.

No, I did not exclude them. I stated very clearly that this is how I define my mother.
I also mentioned before that that Women who could not bear children, for whatever reason, could still be mothers.

We cant define a mother because she is a angle who got many different qualities in her which can't be described so easily and she is the most superior person in the world and she is even great than the lord in my view. She is the one who give us birth by sharing her blood that no one esle can do ,she is the one who gives us every happiness in the world on behalf of how much sad she is,she is the one who never keeps her children hungry and she the one who never curse her kids and many more qualityies like this which we the normal people cannot understand and she never exposes her qualities and just always keeps praying for her kids all the time and one will get to know what is mother and her qualities, when one becomes a mother.

Great write. A mother is the person who usually gives the most, sacrifices the most, loves the most, and feels the deepest, aslways wanting more than she gets in return, but never showing it.
Some of those who have the ability to have children never really realize how blessed they are to have those blessing in their lives.
Even when the children are at their worst, it's still better than never having your own child.

I understand what you are saying. We lost four babies. I lost them when I was between five and six months pregnant. I know of loss and I know how fortunate I am to have two beautiful daughters. I think loosing four made me appreciate the ones I was blessed to have. My heart goes out to those wonderful ladies who, for whatever reason, cannot bear children. I know that they are special and do "mother" many other children.
Thanks for your comment. Hope you have a wonderful day.

Thank for giving elaborate matter to explain the status of a mother. But this only fraction it and words cannot explain the role of a mother.Even Jesus Christ came to the earth via a mother.I wish all mothers a happy Mothers Day.It is nothing but we have limitation.
Thank u
