I think the ability to LISTEN is the more important characteristic in a boss. As well as humility and the ability to take criticism from your employees. So far, I haven't had a boss with any of those qualities. They have all be arrogant, egotistical, and self-righteous jerks. It's too bad...

You are right, the ability to listen is one the most important characteristic in a boss, however, I think the ability to be patience is important as well.

I certainly agree it is. Of course it is in relation to the employees under him or her. Everyone has their bad days and it can show up in your work. So an understanding boss makes all of our lives easier.
Of course there is a limit so if the boss knows you are doing your best and overlooks minor things then that boss will always get more out of their employees than one who is not.

I think there is more than one characteristic that a boss should have. I think the ability to truly listen to a employee is one, patience is also one of those, along with having a open door policy in the true sense of the word. A boss also needs to be able to make a good decision and stick by it. So there is more than one characteristic that makes a good boss. If they have a little of all of them they will make a excellent boss. I have a excellent boss that I work for.

I think the Most Important Characteristic a boss should have is GOOD DECISION MAKING.
As a boss, you have a lot of responsibilities. If you fail to make a wise decision in business, it could affect not only your business, but also all your employees' life.
