You I see all these advertisements for saving the planet, but I see little action. Take recycling, one aluminum can recycled will save power enough to power your TV 3 hours. Aluminum requires a lot of electricity to produce from the raw material bauxite. how many hours of free TV have you thrown in the trash. I am guilty of maybe 10 lifetimes now. But I would recycle if it were easy. I live in hawaii right now and you would think we would be leaps and bounds ahead on recycling on an island. but oh no we are not. Washington state has cities with mandatory recycling programs. I think we as americans should set an example, we should make our politicians make recycling mandatory, in most instances it would pay for its self plus some. We are good at talk, but you take the action, I am to busy. When our grand children grow up in a polluted environment just say sorry i was to busy, and it was not this bad then, hey maybe you should recycle, lol.

They'll probably end up mining our rubbish dumps for all the valuable metals in them.

you could probably make a small fortune on a dump closed in the 80's, but you would unleash such a host of toxins you would have to have all employees in bio suits, lol. We sure are a lot of hot air, probably where a lot of global warming is coming from, lol.

I suppose so, but after 50 years or so, the dumps would be pretty clean of bio hazard. Of course, there'd still be all the hazardous waste like asbestos and heavy metals from batteries and suchlike. Also, dumps that are still fermenting produce quite a lot of methane which can be tapped and used. There are some places that are using gas from this source I believe, though I don't have any details.

YES that is a good idea, we now do that, trap methane on the new dumps, but how much more energy could be produced if we went back and taped the old dumps. The main problem is that it dose not turn an instant profit, nobody in the know or in charge wants to say hey lets go ahead and do that because the long term benefits would be so great for the environment and future power needs. We can not wait till the day the oil runs out and say well we will burn bio fuel now boyz, lol.

Some people think that global warming is a hoax, that landfills are fine, or they just don't care. I do care, I recycle, we have curbside pick up in our city so I don't think it's that hard. We use energy efficient lightbults, drive a car that doesn't guzzle gas, we line dry clothes when it's sunny, my son wears cloth diapers, we use cloth wipes on him, and I use cloth menstrual pads. I was raised about caring for the environment too, so I think that influenced me a lot, and I hope that my son will care to when he grows up.

YO an a++++++++++++ to you and your city, curb side recycling should be mandatory in every US city with curb side pick up. The last I saw of that was in Washington state and it has been ten years since I was in the north west. Washington State is one of the greenest states in the nation, they recognize the importance of recycling. We all should, stand up and be counted tell your local government if you do not start implementing green world policies you will not get re elected to office.

The thing is: NO ONE is caring. People are worried but not taking action. Ask one of your friends and see if they stopped watching TV. I mean really stopped. No, nobody did. See if they stopped using the computer. No they didn't. And no one is going to do that... So we can say no one is really caring.
