Do others' avatars inspire you to read and reply?

Avatar, the Last Airbender - I know I'm a grown woman, but I cannot help but love this character.

When you're perusing new discussions, has a person's avatar been the reason you were lured in to read what they had to say? I'm the first to admit that I'm guilty of this. If someone has an avatar that I can relate to in some way (e.g., dragon, fairy), I'm all the more interested in clicking on that discussion link! Do you do that, too?

no. i answer discussions that really interest me. i dont think avatar will ever compel me to asnwer a discussion. if i like an avatar, i go to his/ her profile and take a close look at it.

A good avatar does attract my attention, so I am more likely to notice a discussion by someone using a decent avatar. This does not mean that I will respond to it, if the subject matter does not appeal to me then I would not bother with it. The same applies where a person with the default avatar creates a discussion that interests me, I would respond to it. The only real difference is that I would be more likely notice the discussion, so a good discussion with an attractive avatar would always be found.

I do really check all avatars and profiles of my friends or who will be, sometime I look to those funny and nice avatars and I start discussion according to that, they inspire me ideas, Although it is hard to find ideas to be written here.

With close to 90,000 members, it's getting very difficult to come up with fresh material. I feel your pain.

I'm not generally drawn by people's avatars. I'm more concerned with what the topic is about and whether or not the person asking the question has done so in a way I understand. Sometimes the questions just don't make any sense. Anyway, your avatar didn't draw me, but your name did. I know a bit of history about Elizabeth Bathory and find it intriguing. So that, more than anything, got me to answer your question.

Fair enough. If I saw the Bathory name, I, too, would be more than a little curious. Alas, I am an Elizabeth, but not a Bathory. One can wish. *grin*

I do this too sometimes. I think it just shows that we are drawn to what our interests are. I like avatars with stars, butterflies, bath stuff etc. By the way, I like your avatar:)

LOL! I love when smilies are doing cute things! I have these cute little kitty and puppy smilies too that do tricks, so adorable! BTW, where did you make or find yours? I love that little punk rock chick!

Thank you, smellsyummy. :) It's one of those "dress the paper doll" type sites. I have to track the URL down, as I don't have it handy at the moment. Speaking of smiley faces, I really hope they add emoticons here, so we can use smiley faces in our discussions.

Thank you! I was just about to compliment you on yours, too. I'm a sucker for smiley faces, especially cute ones taking bubble baths! *grin*

That's a good point, and one that I had forgotten. When I see someone with a high post count, or credit score, or whatever it's called, and they haven't taken the time to upload a personal avatar, I immediately think "scammer," even though I know that I shouldn't, for some people simply don't care to do so, which is perfectly fine, too!

Really I hardly notice the avatars that people have unless it's particularly eye-catching. Some of the animated ones catch my attention from time to time but generally it's just the discussion title that I notice.

It's nice to read that. More often than not, it's the title that lures me in, but there is the odd ocassion where the avatar beckons me . . . I must obey!

I tend to do that too occasionaly. Yours was one of the ones that really interested me actually. =p I do often answer people who have avatars from anime, or anything that is kind mysterious, or even just a little Goth. Not always, mind you, and sometimes even if I look at a discussion because of the avatar, I don't respond if I don't really have something to say. Speaking of avatars, mine moves now! I'm so proud! =)

Hey, that's really cool! I didn't realize animated GIFs retained the animation, but were rather caught on the first frame, when viewed as thumbnails.

You have to actually resize the GIF to within 60x60 pixels to make it retain the animation! A lot of people didn't know that, and were having the "stuck in first frame" problem. A lovely friend of mine on here has been fixing them for people, and told me how to do it. =)

Aha! So that's how it's done. Thank you, lecanis, I think I may do a bit of experimenting with my avatar now. *hugs*

Nope. I don't care what the avatar is or whether the person even uses one. The subject is all that counts with me. After all, we're not discussing the avatar.

Speaking of which, I've been curious about your avatar . . . *grin* I assume it's a random, kaleidoscopic image, or at least that's how it appears to me. It's there a meaning behind it?

I think we are all guilty of that to some point... I also look at their names....I have seen some very original names here....they have such good imaginations I think the name and the avatar tell us a tremendous amount about the person...

I'm inclined to believe that, too. If someone has taken the time to be creative with not only their username, but their avatar, too, it tells us that the person has really put some thought into establishing an identity here, be it for better or worse. I'm generalizing.

I hit reply too soon. I was going to say that there are exceptions to every rule. Some people aren't interested in aesthetics, and that's fine, too.

not particulary. i always look on what is the topic before i participate in the discussion. but there are times when im lured into a discussion because of the avatar, especially if i find it really cute.
