If you wear sunglasses whilst driving at night and you are involved in an accident, the fact that you were wearing sunglasses will invalidate your claim. Even whilst driving in daylight you should wear glasses tinted onto the the recommendation of your insurer. Other Half chuntered this information to me whilst I was answering another post, and I thought it may be of interest and possibly aid the safety of fellow Myloters.

in india insurance companies can't reject the claims on such an issue. it is possible in europe countries. In india if claim occurs the insurance company has to pay the claim whether the person is wearing sun glasses or not. even it hardly matters if that person has forget to wear his spectacles.

Well, I am not being disrespectful, but I am glad that the insurance laws in this country are a bit stricter. The thought of some people driving without their spectacles is very worrying indeed. I am sure that you yourself are a very careful person so you would always ensure that you vision was at its best when you drive.

You would be surprised how blonde some people can be. Not only do they wear dark glasses, but I have seen people driving with so much hair in front of their eyes I do not know how they can see anything! Our optician makes special tinted lenses for driving which comply with safety rules. We had to use a magnifying glass to read all the small print of his policy, by the way.

Oh yes I realize that if you were wearing sunglasses in the night and you were in an accident then of course you would not be covered as this would be one reason why you may of had the accident you have to make sure of everything you are doing before you get behind the wheel of any car. Thanks for caring once more for your friends and members xx

I was answering another post about sun glasses when Other Half piped up with that interesting fact and I wondered if everyone else knew it. I can't think why people would make their eyesight less effective at night, but I must admit I still use sunglasses at night sometimes because glare really hurts my eyes.

Well I'm not sure why anyone would be wearing sunglasses at night. I have to wear dark sunglasses during the day though because I'm very photosensitive. Sometimes the outside light hurts my eyes even when it's cloudy and overcast. If I don't wear the sunglasses then I am partially blinded and it's not safe for me not to wear them.

I must be odd then, because I do wear them in the car at night (I do not drive)as the glare of headlights can be so painful that it makes me ill. Yes, some twits do wear really dark glasses to drive at night, and it is in our insurance policy micro print that wearing dark glasses at night invalidates a claim, honest!
