I'd like to know if there is a purpose to having myLot friends? Are they beneficial in any way or are they just... there? I'm sort of desperate. It's going to take me quite a while to earn enough for a payout here. So sorry.

you can get more friend here and you can see the items below discussions .
there is one itmes : discussion from my friend.
so if you have more friends, you might get more response .
and then you get more money .
and I think make friend is not only means money,but also you might get friendship .

You need friends so they can response your discussion, and you can response their discussion too.
You can ear more money with that, can find more friend here and get money.
