it is never safe to use credit cards for online shopping, but the truth is, nothing is ever really safe. there are no guaruntees for anything. all you can do is make sure the site you're paying to is a reliable place. if you've never heard of it before, chances are that your money could be at risk.

no it is not at all secure to use credit cards on the net.if at all anyone gets your number he can easily use it for his items. therefore if it is highly required then only use creditcards in online shopping. and remember during online shopping before giving away your number always check for a secure connection.(SSL connection)
and u should do online shopping from sites which have such faccilities such as
ebay.com
indiatimesshopping.com

While everthing carries a degree of risk, shopping online using credit card should be relatively safe as long as you follow these tips:
-shop from well known companies : these companies uses the latest online security measures
-only use secure websites: secure encryption such as secure sockets layer or ssl encrypts data by breaking it up into small pieces so that the information canNOT be read by anyone attempting to intercept it.
To ensure your purchase is processed using SSL, always look for a message stating that you are entering a secure area. Also look for a padlock symbol in the lower right corner of your browser symbolising the website is secure.
Most often the website address will also change in your browser address bar and will change from http to https.
