Loves and hates of camping.

I love setting out on the journey very early with the 4 WD all packed after months of preparation. We're off to a remote beach and everyone else is off to work. I love being at one with nature and the sounds of waves on the beach and the different bird calls. I love the adventure of the whole thing, setting up camp, having time to read books, no TV, radios, or phone...just the sounds around me. I love cooking out in the open and talking to the ranger when he drops in. I love the night time campfire with it's heeat warming me through my warm clothes, snuggling into my camper bed is heavenly and looking out to see the stars. There's a kookaburra that would try to pinch my breakfast...as it's cooking...and he'd hang around for leftover bits. I hate anything to do with the porta potty...esp the bit about digging the hole to empty it. What is it about camping that you love and hate?

I dont mind getting out there camping, on the beach we go, that way we can go riding on the Quads whenever we like. I just hate the packing up part.

Packing was pretty exciting for us. I would organise the food and clothes and anything else we might need and my partner wouldd pack the vehicle...changing his mind at least 6 times before he was satisfied...lol. I just left him to it. He would do a fabulous job of it.

Well the 'love' part is easy, I love everything about camping. For the most part, I love it when my boyfriend calls on Friday morning and asks if I can get the truck loaded and we'll go as soon as he gets home. We frequent a campground that isn't too far away, but it's great for a weekend get-away. As I'm loading the truck and getting all the camping gear together (we tent camp), my dog knows what is going on! She gets really excited, she loves going because of the walks in the woods and the pond to swim in. We usually take along a book to read, and just relax for the whole weekend. I can't think of anything I hate about camping. I mean what is there to hate, the stars above, the campfire in the evening, cooking outdoors, nope, can't think of anything I hate about it.

i can see that for you, to be going out camping means, to be having a perfect fun way of spending time. i have said this because, you find everything about camping as great happenings and none at all at the bad side.

Oh you are so lucky! We never go camping although we want to, we've just never found the time or mony to make it happen. Maybe next year we will plan ahead and go camping finally! When I was little I would go camping with my friend and her family. I loved it. I loved sleeping in our own little tent and waking up to the small of breakfast cooking in the open air. I loved feeling like I was in the middle of nowhere on an exciting adventure. I love being 'one' with nature. What I remember hating was the port-a-potty situation. They smell so bad and just don't make you feel clean when you use them. If I can find a camp ground that has a full service nice bathroom close-by .. then that is where we will camp when we do. I don't understand why camping sites don't build nice bathrooms and have someone keeping them clean for their guests. It would make more sense to me. Since we can't go out and camp - every 4th of July we camp in our background with our whole family. It's a tradition now. We sent up our huge tent. We BBQ and do all the things you do when you camp - except we are in our own backyard and we have the luxury of using the bathroom and kitchen in the house when we need to. It's alot of fun and we look forward to it every year. I can't say I enjoy sleeping on the ground though, so we have an air mattress now. My dogs love when we camp outside!

What a great idea...sounds wonderful. That is a super family tradition if ever I heard one. Good on you. Our porta-potty didn't have a smell, we used some sort of chemical to treat it so it would breakdown quickly, the part I really loved was our solitude, no other people would be at the remote spot we used to go to. We'd have to take in water and firewood because it was too difficult to drive in and out over the sand dunes. Local folk would come at the weekend to camp and fish but during the week we'd have the place to ourselves.

Over the years, I have done all kinds of camping but I think the one I like the best is Hotel camping. I enjoy the heated pool and the stores to go shopping at. I love room service. I hate it if the sheets are cold or if the pillows are not fluffy. Yup, more Hotel camping for me. Aww, such is the life!!!

I would wash using a bucket and a wash cloth. Then I'd wash my undies. That's all part of it, but it doesn't mean you have to be dirty or smelly.

I love the camping.. but dislike the work involved, being rather lazy at heart.. But I would truly love to live in the wilderness.. well, not right away though.. but in utopia.. anyway.. it's a dream.. Closer to what life should be, than what it is these days.. :))

Give me wilderness over cities and time. It would have to be a log cabin with a huge fireplace rather than a tent though. LOL.

Camping - Bangers on the barbie
My partner and I go camping a lot and although he is very much a *light weight minimal* type camper, I have to have my camp bed and a good sleeping bag. These days we tend to chuck everything into the back of the car and go where we please but, like you, I hate trying to organise my toilet arrangements. Sometimes I have had to use a small bucket, really difficult in the small front porch area of the tent at 3am :-(

I thoroughly advise you to get a porta-potty. Bliss!

It is nice and good to be one with nature. However, if I want to do this, I do not have to go on camping the way you are doing it. There are no campsites in our country like the ones you have in yours. My mother has a sizeable farm. We can go there anytime and explore the areas in her farm which are still very much untouched and looks so great. We can also go to our farm, it is only a small one. There, we can enjoy being one with nature, too. So, when we visit these areas, it is all fun for us. The difficult part only involves the trip from home to the farm, and back, which is quite tiring.

I love everything about it. We have camp sites here with water and sewer so we don't have to empty a porta potty. Where there aren't sites with sewer there is always an outhouse. I even love doing dishes when I'm camping but I like doing dishes outside at the picnic table. I just love camping and at night sitting around the camp fire. This is very relaxing and it's a lot cheaper than going any place far away with todays gas prices.

Camping is really nice and exciting.. We used to hike from the municipality's market up to the mountain's peak, it was a fun experience plus it helps me exercise.. We camp with a tent and it is really to be on top to see the views, the problem is there's no river around the area and there's no proper toilet to use, as much as hygiene is concern.. But there are more positive things because that's what we choose to do.. =)

haha.. i think you just love to relax yourself huh? erm.. me too.. i like the sound of bird.. and i always stare at the sky.. enjoying it's beauty ..i think it's miracle how we have blue skies.. and clouds.. and we're actually living on a small planet.. not even 1% of the total planet in the galaxy....i always relax myself after gym... i love camping too.. i think that's when i get the feeling of independent.. i get to cook myself.. build my own tent.. and even start my own fire.. but .. the only thing i dislike about camping is that spirits might disturb at night.. and it's true.. because many of my friends had experienced it..

Ah how your post brings back good memories. I grew up camping alot. Those were fun times .It would be difficult to camp now due to health issues. But at least I have wonderful memories of camping.
