Depression and chronic pain

When your chronic pain condition is flaring up do you notice that you're more depressed? And when you're more depressed, does it make it more difficult to deal with your chronic pain? In other words, does an increase in one necessarily mean an increase in the other? Do you take anti-depressants to help in your pain management or do you rely on your own personal resources to get past the depressive episode(s)?

Well I suffer from bipolar (manic depression by the old name) so depression is part of my life. Yes it can make the chronic pain worse and the chronic pain can make the depression worse as well. It's a nasty circle. When I go to do something and I can't due to pain it makes me depressed, especially if it's something I used to be able to do. I'm not talking major things but minor like doing the dishes. When I end up in major pain from that it brings me down quite a bit. Of course when I'm depressed I have a tendency to sleep more and that hurts. Add to that when I'm in a manic phase I often over do and that brings me crashing really fast. It just seems like a no win situation. I'm not on any depression medication due to no money and no insurance. I have in the past been on anti-depressants and it did help at least for that part. I'm sure it would help with the chronic pain as well.

Gee, I'm struggling just dealing with the depression half. I can't imagine the difficulty of dealing with having the manic part thrown in, too. My hubby's bi-polar and we keep him well medicated. It helps that he gets migraines if he skips his meds..so he's mostly willing to take them. Have you looked into being seen by your local mental health clinic? They tend to be crowded and to have long waits but you can get medication. You pay a sliding scale based on your income -- some people pay nothing since they're on food stamps, etc. Your income is none of my business, of course, but we've been there with unemployment and before the kids were grown.

Do you really suffer from paid ? My prayers are with you. When David running away from Saul, we see him as poor chap going pillar to pole. If you read Psalms and get solace from there, we will understand why God made David to ran away from Saul. Such a beautiful Psalms you will never from anywhere.
