How do you go about adding friends to your Mylot list?

I mean, do you have some sort of criteria that you are looking for to find or add friends? Or do you just see something someone had added to a post and invite them to be a friend? Or do you just accept anyone to be a friend?
The reason I am asking is that a few people have requested friendship from me that I have never heard of or seen before. I looked and they had not responded to any of the discussions I started or have they been involved in the discussions in which I responded. To me, it just seemed a bit odd to ask someone out of the blue to be your friend. Is it ok to refuse friendship, or would that be rude? Let me know what you think. I don't want to offend anyone.
Thanks.

I look at their profile and see if they have similar interests. I look at the kind of discussions they start and see how interesting I find them.
I don't think it is rude to turn someone down if they have nothing in common with you and don't respond to your discussions.

I have no criteria for adding any friends. I choose who I please no offense. I just don't see the need for adding that many friends if I know I won't respond to all their discussions. Now, I do like making responses to other people's discussions, but I don't have to have a lot of friends. I don't understand why Mylotters have over 200 friends and they never respond to their discussions. You just don't need that many friends. It would be hard trying to make good bonds and relationships with too many people I guess. Just wanted to share my thoughts.
