Do you return call to a missed call?

I'm a research assistant and i make a lot of phone calls each day as part of my work, most of the time when there is no answer and it is directed to a voice mailbox i leave my office number and message to return my call. Only 1 out of ten actually calls our office and explain that they received a message to return call or that they missed a call from our office lines, checking why what it is all about.
Will you return a missed call? or a message asking for a return call even if you don't know who is the caller and why he/she wants to speak with you? Why would you? Why would you not?

I don't return calls if the person does not say why they are calling. I get a lot of telemarketing calls, and if they can't take a minute to say what they want, I can't take a minute to return their call for something I probably don't want anyway.

a lot of people are now so annoyed about receiving too many telemarketing calls. no one seems to welcome receiving any at all. the trouble with this is, if there is an important call being pushed through and the person at the end has already been annoyed considerably, surely his mood for the incoming call has been affected.

yep.. i will return a miss call. .i think people don't call me for fun.. as they know i'm a serious type of person.. that's why i think i have to give them a call back.. what if it's an emergency and they can't get to you? don't you think you should get back to them as soon as possible? i do know there are some people that loves to play miss call.. they think it's fun to disturb someone that way.. it's wrong.. this is just like a case of the sheep and the boy.. the boy shouted for help as the wolf is attacking his sheep.. nobody helped him because nobody trust him anymore.. did you ever heard of such stories? :)

Yup, im familiar with stories like that. My mother used to tell me not to play jokes with other people because when the real thing happens, they won't believe you anymore.

I usually always return any missed calls. Even if the number is not familiar, i call on it and tell them i received a call form this no. Coz u never know when you might actually miss an important call.

I have a habit of returning missed calls late, but I do make an effort to return every call I get. However, if I get a call from someone who does not identify themselves, I would be hesitant to return that call. In my mind, if why you are calling isn't important enough to state in a message, then it is not important enough for me to return. Usually, I would wait for that person to call back so I can speak to them in person.

Sometimes, there are people playing with phone numbers, they just guess a phone number and call for no reason. I am aware of it, but i still make a return call whenever i see one, because i am thinking it might be something important or an emergency call.

no. i dont return a call to someone who just missed a call on me. but sometimes, if it is someone so important, i.e. my mum, or any family member, i would but soemeone whose name isn't stored on my phonebook. i won't give a time for it. another is that missed calls are so annoying. they just drain your batteries and just wastes your time.

I'm not talking about the "i-missed call kita" thing that only last for 2 seconds, i'm talking about the real calls that were not able to answer for a certain reason. Anyway, yes, the missed calls you were referring to are not very nice.

I try to return my missed calls because I know that it would bother me if someone didn't return my calls, cause it makes me feel like they're ignoring me, and I don't want people to think that. It makes me feel rude if I don't return the calls cause I figure they wouldn't have left a message if they didn't want me to call them back.

It is depend of the incoming number.
If i know the number then i will call back the number, but if i don't know the number then i would not return call.
i will return call number that i know because i have know he/she and maybe they want to ask me something so i will return call.
But i will not return call for number that i don't know, i will wait until they call me back again, because it can be maybe it is just a wrong number call, so i would decide not to return call

I am inundated with calls from from people wanting donations, to sell me something, or to try to collect some debt, usually from relatives I've never met, or hardly know. Then there are the political calls that just get insane during voteing season. Even though people in my state have a no call list, we still get illegal calls from telemarkers.
So my answer is this, unless you tell me in your message who you are, who you are working for and why you are calling, I will not return your call as I suspect most others won't either. I understand you have to be careful with what information you can divulge, but you need to elaborate on the reason for the call, you can't just say, a "business matter," or something like that, you must be specific, or we'll never call you back.
All too often the people on the otherside of the phone are collectors, scammers, or someone working in their interests and not ours. That is probably why you get so few call backs.
If you're researching something as you say, then tell them, "I am x calling for y about an issue I am researching z, and would love to hear back from you regarding your opinions." You might be surprised at how many more callbacks you get when people don't feel threatened or that you are trying to con them. People love giving their opinions, that's why it's great to ask for specifically.
However, if you are trying to collect a debt, or sell something I would suggest finding a new line of work. :)

Since I am a real estate agent...it is not uncommon for me to receive calls from people that I do not know...I always call them back...it is good manners and since I do not know what they wanted (unless they told me in the message); I feel that I should call and find out how I can help them or answer their questions.

I usually return call to a missed call, but if the number from someone i don like ,i will not return it.
Do you often receive calls from strang numbers? And they often ring one time. No sooner had I received it than they hung up.I feel very angry. But I have to receive them, because I'm afraid of missing important calls.
Sometimes I will let my mobile ring for a long time , if i dont want to receive a call from someone. When i meet him, i will say i forget to take my mobile.
Mobile is very convenient, but it also brings me many new problems.

I return calls only if the person is added to my contacts. If the number is not famililar I will just let the caller call back. As to phone messages, yes I always respond to them. Besides, the people who usually call me are family members and other relatives. My friends and I don't really talk on the phone, we're better off smsing each other.

i will surely return a call if i feel that it is something of importance. otherwise, i will just ignore it. in most cases, these missed calls or requests for return calls are being done on trivial matters. it will only be a disappointing thing to give them a ring at all.

Is that so.. How will you determine that it is an important call? My calls are important a i wish so much that they return them. They are quite confidential so i can't say much if i leave a message. Sometimes when the person i'm calling doesn't pick up and my call is not directed to a voice mailbox, i just call him/her again so that when he/she checks his/her phone, there will be 2 missed calls from the same number. If this is you, will you get the message that my call is important or will it annoy you?

If its a friend, I always return the call. If its someone I don't know, I usually don't. We get so many unwanted calls from different companies trying to sell us stuff.
