I am interested in the concept of families from around the world, the different cultures, & what they beleive makes up a family?
Does your family include numerous children? Did your grandparents live with you as a cild? Did you have step siblings?
I come from a family of only two children, my brother, who is three years younger than myself, and me of course. My grandmother didn't live in our house, but just down the road, so we could se her everyday. Three of my aunties & their families lived in our street too.
My family nowadays, consists of my husband,my self, my daughter & my two step children who we see part time.
My parents live only 6 minutes drive away.
I would welcome responses frtom people in non-western countries, as I am interested in their Families.

Hi jennybianca! I'm from the Philippines, and in our country it's common to have an extended family, meaning, aside from the nuclear family, the grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives live with one family. Before I got married, I live with my parents and two sisters, but our relatives live in the same compound. When I got married, my husband and I now live with my parents-in-laws, two nieces and a grandson. I guess it is common for the Asians to live with their relatives or in the same community with relatives, this is due to close family ties which is very common to Filipinos and most Asian countries. It is sometimes troublesome and could create problems, but usually it just creates a happy, loving community.

My family is kind of mixed up as I have one biological sister , two half brothers , two half sister and one half brohter . My husband has one brohter , one sister and three half sisters .
My husband and I have four of our own children together and we have another daughter that we took in to live with us as she is not our biological child but didn't have anyone to take care of her and we took her into our family even though we are only her legal guardians by law . We love her just as much as if she was one of our own and she is a part of our family and is our daughter .
Growning up my grandparents didn't live with us but when I was younger I can remember and older man that lived with us , I am not sure if he was related to us in any way but he lived with us til he passed away .
My parents are divorced and my dad is remarried and my husband's parents are divorced and his dad is remarried .
My family lives away as they moved away when they divorced and my husband's mom moved after she divorced so we don't get to see any of them very often but my husband's dad and his wife live within walking distance of us :)

My family has changed over the years. When I was born, and until I was 10, my mother, my father and my sister who is four years older than I am, lived together in one house. Eventually my parents divorced, and it was just Mom, sister and I, then Mom remarried and it was Mom, Dave, sister and I. My dad remarried, and in his house lived his new wife Barbara, and her two children, who were a couple of years older than my sister and I.

In China, most families have three members, mother, father and just one child. Cos the chinese government allows each pair of parents to have only one baby. I am in a typical family like this. As to the olds, if they cann't live themselves, in most cases they live with one of their children. My grandma lived with me for four months and now she is living with my uncle.

I am the youngest of four children. I have a brother and two sisters. We are all about 5 years apart. We were mostly raised by my mom as my dad wasn't around much. My grandma didn't live with us but she came over all the time. I don't really know alot about other relatives because my family is not very close at all. Now I live with my boyfriend and his son. My son used to live with us along with his girlfriend and his son but they have since moved out and gotten a place of their own(and had another son).

I have one whole sister, two half sisters and a half brother. My parents are divorced and I've lived between the two of them. And at one point I have even lived with my grand mother on my dads side. When I was younger my family was in disaray. My dad has three children and my mom has four (that's the whole half whole brother sister thing at the begining) I have a three year old sister who lives with her mom and sometimes it's hard to try and explain to people that she is spawn from my dad and not my mom. But my family is spread out all over as for my aunts/uncles and cusions. And for the most part our family life has settled down too, my brother and myself live with my mother when I am not at college, my half sister lives with her dad, my other sister (who is three) lives with her mom and my older whole sister lives with her fiance in Florida.

This is actually a very good question. For one, how do you determain a "family". Since, I was young, my entire "mothers' sisters' family" has never lived more than 30 miles down the road. They still do lol. I would have to say for me "family" is who is close to you and who is their for you. Not just, household members. My cousin and his fiancee are closer than my brother right now. Mainly my brother is more stuck on himself. I still love him and would back him anyday. I guess to me, to answer your question. I have about 30 family members :) that are close to my heart that is.

Im a Filipina and i have only one daughter, in our house we are only three living, my baby girl, my husband and me. My parents and my two sisters is living 15 minutes drive from our home, my grand mother is living with my uncle a two hours drive from our home. In our family my father always tell to us that if we get married, we should always a have a separate home from them so we will experience the essence of life and having a family. We just rent an apartment near to our computer shop.

In our country ,each couple are allowed to have a baby.because we have big amount of population in the world with few resources.
But when a pair of couple have a little girl, they will want to have a boy.In our country, most of the old people prefer to a boy than a girl.so now ,the rate between boys and girls are not compare, many men cant marry with women because there is more men than women. In the future,it is more difficult for a man to seek a suitalbe woman .
when i have a baby, i dont care of the gender.

My family is small. I have 2 younger brothers and have two children both adults. My children don't have any children. My youngest brother has 3 grandchildren and the oldest is a teenager and the other two are under 6.
My grandparents on my fathers side passed away when I was a toddler and on my mothers side a teenager. We lived on the west coast and they were on the east coast. Presently, we live in a different state than my parents and my husbands parents have passed away. One brother lives in California and the other in Oregon. My older daughter is in the military and the youngest is living at home now saving money to move out.

We're now 6 in our immediate family because of our step sister. She's so adorable though ;) But in our house, we consider even our 2 house helpers as family, 1 of our house helper's son, and also our grandma on my mom's side.
