Do people overlook the obvious? Why?

Somtimes you want people to know something or try to let them know something that is obvious, yet at the same time they seem to overlook the obvious. So with that said, why do you think people overlook the obvious? Is it that they are so caught up in their plans, or themselves that they cannot even notice what is truly there?

They overlook the obvious because they think things are more complicated than they really are. Its this way in everything, especially puzzles.
