I am the mother of three and have a 6 year old who is now staying at school during the lunch break. Finding healthy lunches for her is a great challenge for me and my husband. The challenge increases because we have to do this 5 days each week. The first three days we may give chicken nuggets, shrimp nuggets, burger meat or pizza and one type of vegetable with each. Then what next, usually cycle restarts.
Does not like to eat bread especially if it is cold. Will only eat warmed or toasted pieces with melted cheese.
Since lunch is about 3hrs. later no breads given.
Any suggestions for healthy, tasty and great appearance food to take to school for lunch?

Well i know that my neice is 7 and she really likes salad, especially if you buy one of those containers that you pour the salad dressing in the top and when she's ready to eat it you push the button thing and the salad dressing goes on to the salad, it also has a ice pack in the lid to keep the salad cool. Only if your child likes salad. other than that I'm not sure, Good Luck Though.

I try to serve my children a variety of different foods so that they don't get tired of eating the same foods over and over. Pasta is a nice healthy food thatyou can feed your child. You can use different kinds of pasta and different sauces to change it up. Here is a website where I get different ideas from. http://www.recipestogo.com/childrecipe/childrecipe.html

I'd vote for lunchmeat & cheese rollups, fruit with yogurt to dip in, raw veggies, chicken legs. She's only 6, she'll be fine and get used to it.

My daughter is a finicky eater. She likes the Mott's cinnamon applesauce, in the little ready to go containers. Also, she likes cheddar cheese cubes with grapes, apple slices with peanut butter, carrot sticks with ranch dressing, and sometimes just plain orange slices or pineapple rings. There are some healthy alternatives that are good for you and are fun to eat. I know it is hard to get your child to eat healthy especially when they are so finicky, so try those and see how that goes! Good luck!

We have to try to eat raw vegetable and fruits. These are also use best snacks. Raw vegitables and fruits are high nutrients than cooked of baked foods. As snacks I preffer raw food. If we are conviced the children to eat raw food it is helpful to thier health. It is convienience to the elders also.cucumbers,Tomatoes, carrot, radish, some leafy vegitables are mostly used for raw food.It is convenient to change daily different recpies to prepare also.

I would suggest getting a food dehydrator. You can make a lot of stuff from fruit. These are extremely healthy and most kids like them. You can make fruit leather to chips. You can even make vegatable chips.

Does she like cheese? Cubes of cheese, especially if you put them on toothpicks for her can be a nice lunch with some carrot sticks or other veggie on the side. If she likes them you could also make her a chef salad, with lunch meat and boiled egg on a bed of lettuce.
Or, if she ahs a thermos you could send her with soup.
Good luck!

A favorit for my son would be salad with seeds (sunflower or pumpkin) aith light vinigrette dressing in a packet, vegetable sticks (carrots, celery, cucumber), fried rice (left over rice mixed with anything and everything else, stew, porridge, any kind of soup with macaroni.
Some of the things that's popular with my boys. Good luck! - Lyn

When I make a stir fry or a rice meal for tea I always make enough to put in small containers for the kids to take to school for lunch the next day, one of my daughters favoruites is satay chicken and rice very simple and easy to make the night before and just stick into a samll container and put into the fridge until the morning.
Wheat products are very heavy and bloting on the stomach so I like to try to steer away from them too.
