data recovery programs?

my computer just got hacked and I cannot boot into my hard drive even with recovery software. I would have just reformatted and re-installed xp like I usually do but I really need stuff from this hard drive that had not been backed up. It does not register as a drive when being looked at by another working hard drive so I can't even get into it to take the data off it. Does anyone know of those data recovery programs that can take the data off of it even though it's not showing up in the list of hard drives? like the stuff they use to get data that was deleted but is still there?
