I was going to start a similar discussion, because I am having the same problem. If you have partitions on your hard drive that can make it easier. It's no use formatting your computer until you have everything completely backed up. Then you need to find all your installation discs and have them in one place. You are going to need to boot to the Operating System disc. You can follow the instructions to set up the Operating System and it will offer you a choice to format the disc. Alternatively you can just boot to a boot disc and type format c: but that is not so advisable. You need to put the operating system back on again anyway. Hope this helps.

On my older computer, I had this kind of problem. The computer was so slow that I though it would be better to reformat it.
Damn, I forgot how to reformat your computer! I did it long time ago... I think you must put the Windows XP CD and then you must just re-install. It will install over the old files, which means your PC will be like a new one.
But be sure to copy your important files to a Compact Disk first!

reformat/reinstalling your computer is an alternate to improve your computer run faster!, but if you feel your computer run slow when booting, try to use microsoft bootvis to increase your booting performance!
but if your computer slow in normal process, i recommend you to try tune up utilities 2006 or another one!
