well, anyone knows this prestigiuos school in our country. if ever given the chance of studying here without taking the entrance examination, will you grab this very opportunity knowing the fact that the tuition and other fees you need to pay will only give you burden instead of learning...?

about 6years ago up students only had to pay 5000-6000 pesos per semester and those who belong to STFAP's brackets 1-4 pay only 45pesos. i was bracket six and had to pay 2000pesos per semester. i would say that was quite cheap compared to other universities not as prestigious as the University of the Philippines. now, i don't know for sure if that much talked about 300% tuition fee increase has already been implemented. but if it is, then what you would have to pay for one semester would still be less than 10thousand pesos. and if you really are financially challenged, that could go down to at least 5000pesos if you apply for an STFAP. i wouldn't consider 5000pesos a burden if that would mean an education and a diploma from one of the coutry's top universities. to get inside UP without having to take the entance exam, you need to be as bright as that 16 year old summa c_m laude girl named michaela. or, you could enrol in another university for a year, get high GWA from that school then transfer to UP. the UP College Admissdion Test (UPCAT) is a little more difficult than most college entrance exams in the philippines. getting inside UP is not that hard, how to get out is a lot harder.it took me about six years to finish a four year course.

in what campus did you stay? nevertheless, the increase is only applicable to all those new freshmen coming and those who wanted to transfer in the university. if i am not mistaken, it is now implemented and students have to pay more than what you said. here in UPLB, the most expensive course for a new freshman, complete with a NSTP course is BS Statistics which amounts to more than 24000pesos. i also, however, agree to what you have said that the education we will get from the university is priceless despite of that "burden" i commented. all i can say... "MABUHAY TAYONG MGA ISKOLAR NG BAYAN"...

let's just hope that the quality of education is directly proportional to the amount that students have to pay. "mabuhay ang elbi!"

i am studying in the University of the Philippines nad i think that all the 'burdens' that will be given to you in financial terms will be compensated by the quality of education that UP will give to you. along with the quality education are privileges that will open your mind in what kind of society and politics we have in our country.

if i may ask, in what campus are you studying (now)? i am just really upset of this tuition and other fees increase (TOFI). yes, there is quality education in the university but, i, in my point of view, cannot feel it. most of the facilities i have recently used were nearly for condemnation. instructors in the university, especially here in Los Baños, most of them were only fresh graduates and only few are remaining which MS/MA/PhD holders. i only now have one year before i graduate and i just hope and pray that this TOFI, though i am not totally affected, would mean full changes in every terms we are all aspiring. Learning is BETTER than spending. I think that you should not be bothered by the cost of the tuition fee but instead be excited of those things that you will learn. Knowledge comes with a price and I strongly believe that studying in UP will satistf your hunger in knowledge. Believe me. I study there.

You MAY be given a burdern, but you will surely LEARN. I think a lot of people would still willingly pursue UP if given the chance, the rest of the problems can follow after. UP also provides its students with avenues to lessen the financial burden, although the quality and quantity of such offers have always been contested. But as the tuition fee gets higher, more people are now more keen on reforms within the scholarship system, as well as the bracketing of socio-economic status. As of now, STFAP is being improved in line with the tuition increase.

there is no such thing a burden when it comes to learning. UP always bring out to the world successful and determined professionals. Now, if given the chance to study there, I wouldnt miss it and grab it. But we all know not all people can afford to study there, if you really want it more than anything, its not impossible...you can do your best to get a scholarship there.
