Positive and Negative Ratings

Since reaching my 100th post I have been thinking alot about the postive and negative ratings. I always read all of my friends posts, make responses if I feel I have something to offer whether it is encouragement, an idea, a lead, or an opinion if asked. I also respond or try to respond to each person that writes a response to my discussions, this isn't to "up my post count, but rather has something to do with my up bringing, that is to acknowledge that you have taken the time to read what I had to say, and thats just as important to me as people who respond to my discussions, I rate those as well.
I have never given out a negative rating as I haven't seen anyone do or say anything that negative (just once, but that was not on my discussion).
I would be interested to know how many of you rate or if you do at all and if any of you have come across some really nagative comments, and what would you term a negative response?

When I respond to a dissuasion, I rate the person who started the discussion, then as I go down and read what other responded, I will rate those who I think have contributed to the discussion in a positive and meaningful way.
If I started a discussion, and people respond to it I rate each and everyone, even the ones that are negative, and differs from my viewpoint.
Then I comment on each response, and try not to just say thanks, but have something meaningfully to say.
I had a huge discussion on this not so long ago, because someone here said it was against MyLot rules to thank everyone, but it is the just thanks that is not allowed.
If I get a best response vote, I comment again and say thank you.

Forgot to add thats why I stopped saying thank you to all of my responses because I thought it was against the rules.

I try to remember to rate my discussions. Sometimes it's hard to keep up when I have discussions that have a lot of responses. I very rarely give a negative rating. The only time I will give a negative rating is if someone is spamming repeated nonsense or if someone is just blantantly rude and disrespectful. I know we won't all have the same opinions on here and I would never give a negative rating just for someone not having the same opinion as me.

also when you start to get more and more friends on your list it can be hard to keep hard and I'm starting to find it harder to keep up. Truthfully I only have around 10 friends on my list that participate in active discussions that I start or that I have seen post on others.

To be honest, I don't even rate negative. If ever i don't agree with they said, I don't rate them. Everyone has its own opinion so there is no reason form me to rate them negative. Maybe if he/she say/write bad words such as Fu*k me/you then that will be the time to rate them negative.

Like you, I try to respond to those who respond to my discussions, because I, too, feel right about doing it. Don't worry about it upping your post count, because it doesn't!
I do rate all the discussion and responses that I read. I have given only one negative rating, and thet was to one that didn't have anything to do with the discussion subject and was insulting to boot. (It wasn't on one of my discussions.) I have rated two discussions with the exclamation points--reporting them, because they were copied from other discussions which had been posted earlier.

That's what they did, copied and pasted the discussion! I don't really understand people who do that! Thanks for BR.

wow, that's a bit low, copying someone elses discussions. Although it's not hard to make the same discussions with so many people here, but to just copy and paste someone elses discussions is a bit low.

I haven't come across anyone using cuss words or profanity yet, Just one time I saw someone on one of my friends lists say soemthing that was totally out of line, but I never gave them a negative rating, I think I should have really.
Welcome to mylot :)
