paranoid of the BBQ

i'm so scared of lighting the bbq. my button to light it up doesn't work everytime so the gas will fill it up sometimes by the time the button actually works. i'm just so scared it will explode on my one day. does anyone else get scared lighting the bbq.

I actually refuse to light the barbeque even though I now know how to do it. A few years ago my sister and I decided to do some steaks. We turned on the gas, realized we didn't have a match, took a little while to find one and then just lit the match. Well, all that accumulated gas caught fire and shot up quite high. My sister lost the hair on her arms and singed her eyebrows. I wasn't even touched, but now I'm terrified to start the bbq and leave it for whoever's around.

I have a grill like yours that doens't light all the time with the button. I use an aim n flame to light it and back away very quickly just in case. I am more worried about my kids being around when I light it. I am always making them get in the house or away from the grill when lighting.
