We all see the victoria secret commercials where they have all these women parading arround in bra's and panties. My problem is that they are furthering the stereo type that women need to weigh like 85 pounds soaking wet to be sexy.
And then take into account the show America's next top model have you seen these women. I think that I could wrap my hand arround their thigh. They are tooth picks.
Hence the recent rise in anorexia. Personally I prefer a woman with a little meat on their bones.
Do you think that these women are sexy or just perpetuating a stereotype that is dangerous to our children ?

Coming from a woman in this area, I think that most models aren't even pretty anymore unless they are considered a PLUS size model (why would it be considered plus size when its the average size of an american woman? That just aggrevates me)
People that have no meat on their bodies are not pretty in my opinion. I realize that some people who have thyroid problems can't help it but other who starve themselves to be skinny can. Most men like women with a little meat on their body.
This is just my opinion!!

Sorry I meant to add in there (before I got of my little rage) that I do think they are setting bad examples for our children and they are demonstrating destructive and dangerous behavior for our children.

i also think the girls on americas next top model are skinny
i like the curvyness that comes with a little more weight
i think women have to try to stay thin but not extremely thin
yes, i think they are perpetuating a dangerous stereotype. anorexia could lead to a lack of nutrition

Well, I will honestly admit, I am not skin and bones like most of them models. I have a little meat on my bones, and I am not ashamed. Although sometimes I feel fat so I diet for 3 or 4 days, starve myself. I think I maintain a healthy and sexy weight though. I agree, models are too skinny in my eyes.

Did you know that when you go on to those starvation diet your body tends to hold fat rather than shed it. The weight that you loose is from water and muscle.

I agree with you. I think the media promotes an unhealthy idea of what being sexy is all about. I also heard that model agencies will gradually in the future, try to raise the minimum weight for models because there have been so many health problems involved. I don't think it's going to be resolved overnight though. However, in some places in Europe, like in Spain, they've raised models minimum weight to a healthier weight. It will take a while to that here in the U.S. Probably a few years.

Sexy is confidence, done and done. A girl could look really good, but if she's not confident in herself, isn't outgoing, doesn't try to attract friends and other people, she's not really sexy. You have to love yourself and be comfy in your own skin. Not love yourself like egomaniac, but you have to trust in your judgement. You have to know who you are and where you're going. Even if you're overweight, underweight, don't have perfect shiny hair, whatever, being confident will attract people. People will love the fact that you stand up for yourself. That's what almost all people are naturally attracted to.

I too think these girls are way too skinny. I can't believe they say that a size 8/10 is a plus size model. Well I guess I am considered a plus sized model (if I did model) lol. I think these girls/women that are that skinny are just promoting being that thin and it leads to more people being anorexic.

I agree it is setting a bad example. Not only are models doing this, but almost anyone in Hollywood is promoting the same image. Even if our young girls are not willing to starve themselves into an 85 pound body, they are certainly always going to feel like they are not good enough. Someone needs to tell them that they are already beautiful.

A good brain is sexy, humour, confidence, brooding or laughing eyes.People who injure themselves need to rethink beauty and just who they're trying to impress.

As a guy I don't find skinny women attractive. Yes, I prefer women with a bit of volume. So as long as you exert effort to exercise, eat right, and not to be obese, you'll be sexy.

I completely agree with you. I think that the fashion world is perpetuating a dangerous stereotype. One that could lead not only to serious health problems for women all over the world but also affect the self-esteem and self-worth of women who do not conform to the mold of what is considered beautiful and sexy.
Sexy for me is being comfortable with who you are and what you are. So even if a woman is a plus size, if she feels comfortable with her body then she can be sexy. I do not care much for reed thin women because for me they look more like a stick with a dress on than a real woman with meat on her bones.

being sexy depends on the view of each individual. if those people like you said are toothpicks, in other people they look very sexy. it really on the person's perception of being sexy and beautiful. as the old saying goes "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", that's why we have no choice but to respect their chosen figures.

Hi Impervious. Sexy to me is a state of mind not of body. If you feel and believe and tell yourself everyday that you are sexy (which is what I do) then you will come across as one. I believe that otherwise Id be down and feeling sorry for myself everytime I see these gorgeous women on tv, magazines, everywhere. Oh no, Im not model thin, Im not overweight but I am SEXY ;). Thanks and have a great day!

Well, Impervious I would have to agree that the industries out there these days marketing these models such as Victoria's Secret and the like send out the message to young girls what perfect is supposed to be. It is something as old as the times and will probably continue as long as there is television shows and commercials. It is really ashame that magazines out there as well as television have a way of perpetuating what beauty is. It really doesn't seem very healthy to be so skinny and the young girls out there, especially our teenagers are looking for acceptance more than any other time in their life and they end up becoming anorexic for the sake of being perfect.

hey...I fully agree with you..!!
Seriously those ladies at next top super models are soooo thin..an I hate that...!
I would love to have that womenly figure with a little bit of meat..!!Like Kate winslet in titanic.
And if you ask the defination of SEXY to me..!!
Then I would say sexy is something in the attitude..!!
Belive me I met so many people who are over weighted and still sexy just because of their eys and and personality..!! The way they carry themselves..!!
To me looking sexy means just "feeling" sexy!!
have fun..

I understand that this question is in regards to the weight issue, and that has been well-addressed in previous posts.
Sexy is...a stare.
Sexy is...an intriguing neckline
Sexy is...a smile when it seems no one is watching
Sexy is...a laugh, at 0400, when the individual is tired and no longer cares how they appear
Sexy is...a birthmark
Sexy is...a unique feature
Sexy is...that flicker of light in the eyes that SCREAMS with the desire to live.
Sexy is...personality
Sexy is...taking it all in stride
Sexy is...understanding that differences (weight, shape, skin, etc) are distinctions of beauty, not imperfections.
Sexy is...not taking oneself to seriously
Sexy is...the ability to walk on, in spite of all else.
Just my thoughts on the matter.

Yes, they are like skeletons or women on Cr*ck or M*th heads or something!! Very unhealthy, obviously they do not have the neccessary vitamins in their bodies that they need and I wouldn't be surprised if when they get into their 60's, 70's and 80's that alot of them have a problem with Osteoporosis, the bone degenerative disease. When one is that skinny, close to anorexia, what they don't realize is that their bodies are crying out for nutrients and less nutrients make for fragile bones as bones are what make the human body strong. oh yeah, they may think, oh well, I'll just POP some OsteoCal or some Ca+ supplement, again, what a misnomer! Don't they know, half of the meds out there are crammed with FILLERS! When these very models get older, they will also be prone to more hip fractures and brittle bones. Such a shame, our society is so focused on vanity, and not personality. Personally, as a woman myself, I consider sexy to be my comfy levi jeans and an oversized t-shirt! Leaves that much more the the man's imagination....AND I get to retain my dignity at the same time!!! TOo bad all women weren't that way. I think it's a self confidence issue too. They've always got to look better than the other woman! Not me, tomboy all the way!! Thank God!
BTW, meat on the bones is a BEAUTIFUL thing!! It's the inside that REALLY should count!

I agree with you. It is perpetuating a dangerous stereotype. For our children because they grow up thinking this distorted image of perfection is what they should be. For adult women because they go overboard trying to achieve this toothpick body that they are told is what they should have, many times endangering their health. I'm always disappointed in a woman who tries so hard to look like what everyone else tells her to, who cant decide for herself what looks good and what doesn't. It shows a lack of self esteem and also a lack of faith in herself to make her own decisions.
this was a good topic, thank you:)
