At what age did you or would you give peanut butter to you child? With all the peanut butter allergies around the suggested age is 2. I'm wondering how many people waited that long, and if there is any evidence to show it actually makes a difference. Or if it's just that the allergic reation at that age isn't as dangerous.

I waited with introducing peanut butter to my son until he was three years old. This is what my doctor and the nutritionist recomended, especially because for a long time, the doctors could not figure out what my son was allergic to as he had a lot of rashes. It turned out that he was lactose intolerant, and I am happy that I did not expose him to nuts until after three. He has actually had a few reactions to pistaciou nuts, so I am very careful with the nuts.
I read somewhere that the U.S. have one of the highest rates of peanut allergies, and this is mostly due to the enourmous amount of peanut butter consumption and the early exposure, which is rare in other countries.
I think that one of the reasons for the careful recommendations, is that peanut allergies is a very serious allergy that really can have a deathly outcome.
However, when it comes down to it, I feel, as I do with a lot of other issues, that the mother is the one, who really knows best on this kind of issue. If you do not have any asthma or allergies in your family, you might not have as much cause for concern as other families do.

That's interesting. But I wouldn't think just cause you eat a lot of something it'd cause an allergy. There is usually something in every country that people eat a lot of.
I agree that moms know best on most things. Follow your instincts!

I started giving my kids peanut butter before they were age 2. It didn't seem to make a difference in them. I don't understand fully why they make you wait until the age of 2. My kids did just fine.

I ended up letting him try some on the end of my finger. I just wanted to make sure he wasn't allergic before he went to daycare! That is something I'd rather find out than the daycare provider, and them having to call me at work or something crazy!

My son is 11 months and my sitter has given him peanut butter. Not a lot but just a little for him to taste every once in a while. He has had not problems so far. I know they say to wait but a little taste every now and then isn't going to hurt.
