We've finally done it! We bought a glucose monitor and started taking regular blood sugar test.
That's all well and good, but our kit didn't come with a chart to tell us what the numbers mean.
Can someone help me and tell me what the desirable numbers should be.
My test came out 125 and my husband's came out 126. Is that good? I think it is. Isn't it high if it's over 140?
I need help. Thanks to everyone who responds.

I have to do mine daily. Yours and hubby's are good but it could be closer to 100. Take in 1/2 hour after eating and see what it is. Take it again as soon as your wake up, it should be very low! Let me know, OK?

Thanks Carolee. We have just started monitoring it to find out what it was so we could start taking care of it before it gets out of hand. We are both into knowing what we should do BEFORE we have to go to the doctor.
Can you tell me how we should get ours down to a comfortable level?

Thanks again Carolee. We are consious of what we eat. Lots of fresh fruit and raw veggies. Little fried stuff. Mostly boiled or broiled or grilled.
Little salt, less sugar, and all that.
Seems to be working.

For glucose, you want it under 110 -if- you haven't eaten or drank in eight hours before the test. That's why it's best to take the test when you first awake. 140 is fine after a meal. There's some good info at www.diabetesselfmanagement.com.

You have already got an excellent response with your first response. I am often hypoglycemic and used to check my blood sugar until recently as it has gotten better when I decreased my sodium. Don't ask me why it got better when I did that, I just know that it did. My blood sugar, especially about an hour after meals, drops to around 70. And, it stays around 70 to 90 except immediately after I eat a meal. It is only normal when I wake up in the morning. Again, my hypoglycemia has improved, so the readings might be close to normal now. I haven't checked.
I'm not sure about the not exercising and type 1 diabetes. I know with type 2, exercising is good as long as you recognize the symptoms of falling blood sugar. You might want to talk to your doctor about that.

Thanks desertdarlene, I'm learning so much about it all. I have to let it absorb.
