Can you get your pets (cats) to stop fighting??

I have an 8 year old cat and I recently got a kitten. THey have come a long way in 4 months but they still "fight" and they are so loud! Meowing/crying out when they fight and roll around on the floor! My boyfriend says they're just playing, but I want to get them to stop because I don't want them to hurt eachother, AND it's super annoying when they're chasing eachother and meowing so loud while they fight! Is there a way to get them to stop or am I "SOL"?? (for lack of a better term)
