Oh My Lovely Books

United States
April 30, 2007 3:54pm CST
This weekend we went through many many boxes of things that were outside. We are getting ready to do a yard sale soon, probably a couple of them. Anyway...I've always hoarded my books. I love my books and love looking back at the ones we have read. But in the matter of decluttering and trying to be really good about it...I have gotten rid of so many of my books. It breaks my heart, but at the same time I know I'll never read them again, I just like looking at them. Whats a girl to do? Someday, I'll be able to keep all the books I want, but I guess since we don't have it now...I should be strong and good and just get rid of the "unspecial" ones. lol In the matters of a good topic. Do you keep all your books? Or do you only keep some? Or do you not keep any at all once you've read them?

I post books at paperbackswap.com that I'm not interested in keeping any longer. If interested in joining, would love to send you a referral and its United States only sorry to members not in the U.S. Post nine books and get 3 free. People that sign up with me means I get a free book. I love the site, which has saved me a lot of money.

Oh no no no no no! LOL I can not get rid of my books. That is a very horrible thing to do! I can't. It is an illness I tell you! If my partner tried to tell me that I had to get rid of my books, I would be in tears. Then when done crying, I would be ready to stand in front of...ok, I can stand in front of all of them...ready to fight him if he came near them. ha ha Seriously, no way! I can't do it! Even if my partner threatened to never buy me another book in the future...I would sneak books. Heck, I already sneak books! ha ha I can't help it! I am a book hoard! If someone tried to stage an intervention, I would seriously not accept a 12 step program! LOL Books are the worlds that I dove into to escape things in my life. Books have the words that can transform my frown into a smile without anyone else talking to me. They are another's thoughts and words put together to form a story that just might teach you something. They are a piece of my life I spent dedicated to those pages. Nope. They are mine and I will not give them up! ha ha And with that said, my deepest sympathies that you are having to part with your books! I understand the "unspecial ones". But to try to figure out which ones are "unspecial" is also a difficult task. ha ha BTW...I am on my last chapter of Dark Legend and will be starting "A Girl's Guide to Witchcraft" soon. :D

I'm telling ya. It is an illness you see. I just can't let go of them. ha ha Even in book swap...someone here at myLot told me about it. And that would mean I would never get the book back. :( Nope, can't do it.

I used to be that way too brokentia but after finding paperbackswap.com I found that it's a lot less painful to "share" my great books that I've loved and get more back from that. LOL

Every book that I have bought or was given, I have kept. I have not gotten rid of any of my books yet and do not plan on it either. There may be a time when I will donate my books to charity so the less fortunate people can have books to read. I certainly would not throw books in the trash as there are people out there who would want any books that I did not want anymore. There is no point in buying a book and then getting rid of it unless you know someone who would be interested in reading that type of book.

Hahaha! I love the books that I have read too! We get the books that I have read, and don't just check them out!! :) I like doing that because it is a great accomplishment when you see all of the books that you have read, and are able to look back upon them!! LOL :) I like how you said, "What's a girl to do?" Keep the ones that are really dear to you if you have to let some go! Like you have already said...Keep the ones that are special to you! So, to answer you other questions... Yes, I do keep my books. Well, the class ones that we have read at school...those are the only ones that I don't keep. But, we did get Fahrenheit 451 that I read at school! :) I would like to keep every single one that I have read from the beginning of my life, but it didn't happen because I wasn't able to when I was younger! But, some books that I read when I was younger, my brothers and sisters are reading know!! LOL :D Maybe you can ask to keep most of them, and only let out a few!! :)

I love to read Books Because its the only best and the best way to read. Electronic reading will never be good for us. You can read and understand a book more fast then Electronic reading. its a natural Fact. If i were there instead of you, i will never want to loose any of my books. One day these books will come rare in this world. and then it will so bad for human being. may be you cant understand, But just imagine only one thing that a child can only read from a book you cant teach child from an Electronic Book or computer. because a child must need a knowledge of Electronic book or computer before .... am i right?

I have a hard time getting rid of books except for light fiction. I keep trying to keep them under control, but I'm afraid they're taking over my apartment. I love paperbackswap.com, but it's not exactly a solution because you swap one for one. But at least it's a good way to get rid of the ones you know you shouldn't hang on to. The site is free so far, and the only cost is shipping out the books you're sending to other people. You get a credit for every one you list, and then can use the credits to order books. And it's not just paperbacks. You can list hardcovers also.

I have weeded out many of my books. But, tend to keep more and more. I can't seem to let them go. REalistically, I don't need them once I've read them. Books are good to keep if they are for reference purposes, but do I need to refer to my Johanna Lindsey novels?

Girlfriend... get on paperback swap and post them. You can then trade for other books. It works like this: Sign up on http://www.paperbackswap.com (please use me hockeygal4ever as a referring person so I get a point!) Post 7 books minimum to begin You get an automatic 3 points Each book you order costs 1 point, tapes/cd books are 2 pts. You simply "order" the book you want and get it shipped to you from the current owner In return, any of the books on your bookshelf can be ordered by other members and you ship them out media mail to them. The average cost is $1.59 per book, sometimes a little more depending on the size of the book. For ever book that is mailed out you get 1 credit when received by the person ordering, building more "credits" to buy you more and more books too! It's great! I've gotten a TON of brand new books and books just recently out because people read them and then trade!

When I moved the hardest thing was sorting through all my books and deciding which ones to keep and what to part with. I ended up keeping all my old books, like Nancy Drew, and classics, mostly hard cover, and getting rid of the mainstream paperbacks that I knew I wasn't going to read again.

Oh, I can relate! It is hard to part with books, but at the end of the day there is only so much room. I have forced myself to set up a system of 'special', 'enjoyed reading but not special' and 'reference'. I have a Half Priced book store in my area that will pay me a little bit for the few I decide to part with. That makes the process a little bit easier. I bet I am going to have a hard time parting with my sons books when the time comes. That is down the road a bit. I will wait to worry about that when the time comes. Lol.

I guess it depends. It's not something I have thought a lot about. My mom is always giving me books to read but then I return them to her. I do tend to keep the books that I read. I know I will not read them again, but I keep them for some reason. hehe Today while unpacking a box from the old apartment, I found a bunch of books I have yet to read. Most of them are by Alex Kava and I remember buying them online. I gave them to my mom to read and then she gave them back. I now forget which ones I did actually read already. hehe And just when I thought I would not have anymore reading material.

I tend to keep all of my books, but as time goes by and my shelf gets more and more cluttered, I wind up eBaying them, donating them to a library or selling them to a used book shop. There are, however, some that I will not part with.
