A few good British bands that I like: Blur, Pulp, The Arctic Monkeys (though they are becoming more well known).

Try goggling for "David Bowie Pinups" that's right, "pinups" like pinup girl, plural. Ignore the cover. It has nothing to do with what's on the album. It's all rarely heard British rock/pop.
Amazon has examples of all of the tunes for you to listen to.
He redid great old tunes by the Mersey Beats, Pink Floyd, The Pretty Things, etc.
I can highly recommend "Monday I've got Friday On My Mind", "Sorrow", "Where Have All The Good Times Gone", 'Anyway I Chose" and "See Emily Play".
There's some much good unheard, (originally) under-produced music on this album that you're likely to pick up on one or more as really fun covers to play.

You could try Porcupine Tree. Not too popular here in the States, but pretty big in Britain and the surrounding areas. Not to mention, my favorite band all time next to Dream Theater.
