Do you like black and white photography?

I so prefer black and white photography to colour. Part of the reason is that it's the lesser used medium and, as such, tends to stand out more. More than that, however, I believe the shadows are amazingly revealing, allowing details that would be hidden in colour to come alive. Do you like black and white photography, or do you prefer colour?

Yes, I often do like black and white photography. There are certain objects that are good in black and white. it is more artistics if it is done properly. However, sunshine and sunset are not good if they are done in black and white colors :-)

That makes sense, as too much, or too little, light can be a detriment. I, myself, have only dabbled in photography and am far from an expert.

i find pictures of people, faces and places in black and white more artistic, too than colored ones. there's the drama in them which makes me appreciate more pictures in black and white.

I like both types, just depending on the photo. I like color photography, but then I definitely think that certain pictures look a lot better and more artistic in black and white.

Certain things just beg to be in black and white, such as hands and feet, where there are so many intricate lines that shadows like to hide in.

I need to experiment with B/W. Since I saw the "feet" I think I need to set my DIGCAM to B/W mode for 1 weekend.

i love it.it sets a mood much more effectively than color in my opinion.i particularily love when they're slightly out of focus/overexposed in places on the image,to make an "old time" feel.

It's funny that you should mention that, because I like to import colour pictures into Photoshop, strip the colour and then play with the filters, oftentimes using a gausian blur, which does funky things to them.

I absolutely LOVE black and white phoos!!!! The lines are so crisp and the shades show so much more than they do in the color photos where hues of the color replace the shadows we see in the black and white photos. Of course, the black and white photos that we have now are so much oc an improvement over the original black and white's..... ow intriguing, my friend.

That's exactly how I feel! They do seem crisp, don't they? Perfect word! Growing up, I used to watch I Love Lucy with my mother. At five years of age, I didn't understand why it wasn't in colour, like every other show that we watched, but for some odd reason, I liked it all the more because it wasn't! Having just caught a rerun on a local cable channel, I was thinking about the whole black and white thing and how much I enjoy still pictures, hence my post. :)

Bah! Not to worry about spelling with me. I have my fair share of typos, too, especially when I'm passionate about something and type faster than I think. I should get into the habit of re-reading beofre posting.

Black and white photos have their own charm and look very elegant.. though the photographer has to be very good.

You're right, he/she does have to be good, or a good "Photoshopper" at the very least. *laugh out loud*

I definitely prefer black & white film over color, it can create such a great atmosphere and give real soul to a photo. B&w film is still relatively easy for me to buy, I have several pro stores close by who stock a good range and I can also order it from the internet. I never shoot in b&w using my digital camera as I can see the tones aren't the same depth as with film and that annoys me so I stick with color then.

there's a certain drama to a black and white photo that colored does not achieve. There are photos however that still looks better in color. The good thing about digital photography is yo can play with the colors and get the best treatment for our photos. I'll upload a photo in my profile (as I can't do it here yet) so you can take a peek at my favorite b&w.

Digital editing certainly has changed the face of the photographic world. Now, it seems, black and white film is a rare commodity that has to be special-ordered.
