a great way, especially with young people, to encourage reading is to get books that are aimed at the particular age group. I would suggest the Harry Potter series or Terry Pratchett's discworld make an excellent start point

I suggest the Harry Potter series of course. Some people say it's just for kids but it is full of adult material too. For light reads I suggest Meg Cabot books like the Princess Diaries, All American Girl, etc. They're seriously harmless books. When I was growing up, I read Sweet Valley and Goosebumps and Fear Street. They're also wonderful for pre-teens or even teens. There's always Roald Dahl and The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. But if you're siblings are mature enough, you can make them read Gossip Girls or the Confessions of Georgia Nicholson. Those books already deal with social issues and sexuality. Some classics worth reading are The Prince and Little Women. :)

A very close friend of mine, and a fellow MyLotter has writen three fantastic Speculative Fiction novels, under the penname of Ben W. Gardner. If you go to Ben's page, you will see the three books advertized there, and a link to his home page where you will be able to obtain more information, and even purchase the books. I highly reccomend his work for anyone with an imagination, and the courage to DREAM and realize that anything is possible.

Well a lot depends on their ages and type of books you like to read. I like a mix and there are several authors I'd recommend for different types of books.
Piers Anthony: mostly fantasy
Nora Roberts: romance and some fantasy mixed
Elizabeth Moon: fantasy
Ann McCaffery: sci-fi and fantasy
Kathleen Woodiwiss: historical romances
Joanna Lindsey: historical romances
Christopher Pike: mystery, suspense, and some paranormal
Lois Duncan: mystery, suspense, and some paranormal
Stephen King: mostly horror
I hope this helps you.

i suggest harry potter since people of all ages read it, im pretty sure that they would like it. but if you're more on romance novel, judith mcnaught and nora roberts novels would be good. then there's dan brown's if you want a suspense or thriller. classic novels such as the little princes and secret garden would be a great books to share. frankly, there are a lot of good books to read that its hard to pick one particular good book.
