Which diabetes medications do you take? Are you on insulin or orals? Do you like the meds you are on? Have you noticed any side effects such as weight gain or weight loss?
i am crrently on GLipizide, but i really don't like it. i have noticed a lot of side effects. I have gained abot 8 ponds since i have been taking it. i have been really gassy. i have had more troubles with my blood sugars. It has affected my breathing. It is causing heart palpitations. Now, my endocrinologist is going to try me in Glyset to see if i like it better. Supposedly it does not case weight gain, which for me is a big deal. i will deal with being gassy for awhile while my body adjsts to stop gaining weight.

Well, for me, I have tried a lot of different Medications in my lifetime. Some of these were good for a while, and then I had issues with them. I was never able to take Metformin or Glyburide due to Severe Cramping. Glipizide worked for me for a while, until I got a Chronic wound, and then I could only get down to about 250.
Now, I am on Insulin, and will probably be on this the rest of my life, due to the Severe Chronic wounds I had for a couple of yrs. It was not a Good experience at all. But with being on Insulin, I have gained at least 20 pounds, and do not like the weight gain, and wish there was something I could do to loose it. But I also have other Issues that cause me from being able to excercise much as well.

i was on insulin, bt i was switched to orals. DO you know what type of insulin you are on? Some are not supposed to cause as much weight gain. The natural ones (clear ones..like Humalog) are not supposed to make yo gain as much weight. The synthetics (cloudy ones...like MPH) make you gain TONS of weight.

I too am a diabetic and I take Glipizide. I only take 5mg 2 times a day.
I have not had any side effects from it and I have been on it for a year.
I have learn how to control my glucose level with my low-carb diet so I will
probably be taken off all medication in the next few months. I try to keep my carbs down to 60 a day. Now don't get me wrong I do not get hungry because I eat 6 times a day, 3 meals and 3 snacks. You can do this too.I even have a blog about carbohydrates with recipes you can try. I put new one up every 3 to 5 days. Right now it has recipes for Appetizers/Snacks. On Wednesday there will be some for Breakfast. If you want the link please let me know.
Have a great day

Oh, i keep my carbs down as low as i can, too. i am only on 5 mg of Glipizide per day, but i am erxtremely susceptible to side effects because my body is severely compromized. i am an extremely strict vegetarian, so if you have low carb recipes that cater towards that, i wouold love to see them.

I was diagnosed as diabetic only last November, type 2 diabetes and was given Lipitor and Metaformin. I used it for 2 months and then the side effect came. First hyperacidity - I began to feel like somebody is punching my tummy. I have since stopped both meds and hasn't gone back to my endo. (I remembered he said that if I will lose 5 kgs, then he will stop my meds) Now, I am taking Reishi Gano herbal supplement from DXN and spirulina which helped me a lot in losing that 5 kgs. Add exercise to that and I am on my way of controlling my blood sugar. now it's down to 120. All in all, I believe that Western medicine has more side effects, you know, like it goes to the liver and kidneys which makes us suffer more.
