Hi,
Definitely HP.
I have used DELL , ACER, and HP.
Dell is not robust, the machine cannot with stand physical stress. The keyboard becomes loose, the display starts to flicker, the DVD drive bay cause issues and the hardware cannot be easily upgraded.
ACER - looks good but again it is not durable. I currently own one so I speak from experience. I have Acer aspire 5000- AMD cpu.
I use HP at office and do some pretty intense processing and am very happy with the performance. I recommand HP go for the higher
Regards
Ash

Choosing a notebook depends on the application you are intending to use it for....
HP has 2 ranges of notebooks, the commercial range and the home segment products.
If you are looking for performance and robustness then go in for Commercial series. The Nx6320 is a very popular model and is a proven product. Depending on your required configuration you can customise ur notebook.
If you are looking to use a notebook for home use and not worried about the durability then the Compaq range is ok. There are many differences and one of the most imp is the chasis of the notebook....all home segment ones are made of plastic wheras the commercial line of products have scratch proof metal !
u can visit the hp website and get more info.
Also kindly also keep a close eye on the customer service provided...Dell may be a good brand but they have still not registered themselves as a channel friendly company. Can u believe it ....there is not a single dealer or partner for DELL in India? Wheras HP has thousands ....
Also remember that a notebook is a mission critical device for you ......it is an aid for education and also a part of your entertainment......
So Go with the World Leader.....Go with HP !

i just bought a brand new 'Acer' laptop.which is aspire 5050 series.i recommend acer if you are a budget conscious buyer because acer come with all features like wi-fi,dual layer dvd writer, duo core processor with 64 bit,and many more feature comparatively cheaper than any other brand.
my acer config is AMD turion 1.6GHz Duo core 64,1GB DDR2 RAM,ATI 1100 Gfx with PS2.0,Dual layer DVD writer,120GB HDD,wi-fi,card reader, bth, integrated WEB CAM. and the price difference compared to other brand is about 8-10000 INR!it cost 42,000.
if you looking for performance gofor sony vaio!sony vaio is best performance laptop among all lap!it cost around 50-55,0000 or more!

Some of the good ones are Dell, HP, Toshiba, IBM, and Acer. What you want in a laptop is up to you. I took Business and Clerical in Job Corps, so I always want a laptop that has a numeric keypad. However, there aren't a whole lot of those, so it really narrows your choices down.
IBM laptops often have that little pointing device that looks like an eraser stuck between four keys. I've used it and not had any problems with it, but it took away from my speed. So I prefer something with a touchpad.
Most people really don't like Vista, myself included. Practically no hardware supports it yet, and the software scenario is not much better. It doesn't look like it will ever support high-definition audio or video, because all of these mediums are considered "insecure." Also, in the name of security, Vista interrogates you every time you want to run a program. They overdid it.
Personally, I recommend Windows XP. Whether you want to grow into the new OS is your call, but I have serious doubts that Vista has much room to grow itself. It was poorly designed, and bears the embarassing nickname "Me II." Dell has some XP alternatives to offer if you're interested.

I'd like recommand ASUS, several of my friends have ASUS laptop, all work very good. Another have a Toshiba, which had been sent back for repairement just after one or two month. Compare ASUS to other like SONY, IBM, it has nice performance and better price.
