I think marriage is a life-time commitment that most people don't take seriously these days. Although I have never been married, my parents have been married for over 25 years and my grandparents on both sides were married over 40 years. I am definently hoping to get married some day in the future. These days people are getting married 3, 4, 5 times and dragging their children from marriage to marriage. It is no wonder why other people my age have a problem with commitment when they see the example that some our parents have set. I think that it takes a lot of time, effort, and compromise to make a marriage successful. Obvious benefits would be tax breaks and dual incomes as well as health care savings. But some cons would be that your credit historys become intertwined which could be a bad thing if one person has good credit and the other has bad credit.
