can you name some positive things about religions that if they were to be taken away, no other institution could replace it?

Religion is slowly going to the background in many countries most young people these days don't have a specific religion and as alot of religions have softened their ideas over the years and changed their values. With churches saying it is fine to have gay marriages and female priest for a start. The bible says we are all created in the image of god and that we should love one another, but then we get people wanting to blow people up. Why caren't we all live in peace like Jehovahs Witnesses they are totally against war. They aren't allowed to judge and they have very high moral standards that no other intitution has ever been able to replace.

Well the only unique thing that religions provide in today's world is a belief system for their followers. This might be missed by their true believers but I would not exactly call it irreplaceable. Particularly so since a significant proportion of the world's population seem to make it through the day without it. But then, no one is taking about taking religions away, so its kind of a moot point.
