I have been accused of being a language snob most of my life.
I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT A SECOND LANGUAGE.
I would never pick on someone learning a new language!
Do you think that people who are born and raised speaking a language should care to learn how to use it properly? Or does it not matter at all?
I believe it is important to have a good command of your native language so that you sound intelligent and are taken seriously.
I believe to much slang, incorrect pronunciation and careless sentence structuring cause people to be perceived as dumb or of less intelligence. Even if they are or not.
Thoughts?

I used to be accused of language snobbery all the time. I just love words, and always loved using proper language and sentence structure. I lived all over, and never REALLY had a problem just laughing it off until I moved to the southern United States. Sheesh! Some folks were downright rude to me for a long time. I think it affected me to a point that now... after many years here.. I feel that I have DEFINITELY "dumbed-down", just in order to expand my circle of friends. Sad, isn't it?
