Does anyone know of a cockatoo or large bird rescue in Central Texas? I ran my own all-inclusive rescue for over 10 yrs and though I just don't have it in me right now to start back up on my own again the rescue fever never left me. I'd love to help with some kind of parrot rescue right now. I had no idea till a few months ago that there is every bit as much need for parrot rescue as dog, cat or any other animal! Did you??? See I bought my first umbrella cockatoo, Jasmine (who is the little demoness in my avatar! LOL) from a store not knowing any better. Then not so long ago my fiance came home from the store saying he'd met a woman with a U2 who wanted to "get rid" of her (grrrrr I absolutely HATE those words!!). So we took in our second U2, Lilly. The woman was her caretaker so Lilly generally likes females ok but the man hated her passionately so she's very afraid/aggressive towards men. Rehabilitating Lilly has been so challenging but little by little we're getting there! As I was searching for advice and information to help Lilly I came across the message boards at Second Chance Birds. Not only have they been a fantastically friendly bunch who are passionate about their birds and very knowledgable but they have really opened my eyes to the sad state of birds that are being abused, neglected, and given up! I'd really like to help with this problem where I can so if anyone knows a rescue local to me I'd love to hear about it!!
