I have always been a great reader of Danielle Stell novels until learnt from myLot users about an author named James Patterson and have been buying his novels through e-bay. I think it is becoming an addiction and keep saying "this will be the last one" but as soon as I finish one I start the next! This is not like me! lol Is anyone out there as addicted as myself? lol

I do that too! My friend recommended David Eddings to me, I had never really read fantasy novels before and didn't think I would be interested...but I bought nearly all of his books, read them after one another and have now started reading all of Robert Jordans books! I've never read a Danielle Steel novel, I don't really read much romance or girly type books. I prefer thriller/crime etc but now my new favourite is fantasy. James Patterson is good too though, I've read a few of his, wasn't too keen on the Women's murder club, but have only read the first one so far, I'm sure I'll get round to the rest of the series eventually :) I have a 2nd hand bookshop near me where I got and buy heaps of books at a time for cheap!

David Eddings is a name I have not heard of before but I am always keen to here new authors and that they are worth the read. Some of James Patterson are better than others and the one I am reading now is "Violets are blue" and I have found to be not as "gripping" as the first few. A 2nd. bookshop is the better way to go other than a Library and I can never get them read on time to return them! lol

I cant even remember the last time I went to a library! Probably when I was still at uni! I had never heard of David Eddings before either, but now he is one of my favourites, he is really good at building the characters, as well as the story line. One day I might even try a Danielle Steel book :)

Hi Caramello. I love Danielle Steele novels too, but I think my favourite must be Catherine Cookson, she is British. Her books are very down to earth, set in the late 1800/early 1900 period. You should try her. I also like Colleen McCullough (who could forget The Thorn Birds), and Bryce Courtney (his book Jessica was much more gripping than the film they made out of it). I haven't read any of James Patterson, so I will check him out.

Hi abbey, I have read some of Catherine Cooksons' novels in the past and they were very light, and as you say "down to earth" reading. Do try James Patterson as I am sure you won't regret them!

The first one I read and could not put down was Honeymoon followed by 4th. of July. They would be a great way to start and you will be able to decide if you like them or not! Good luck and happy reading!

I unfortunately don't get much time, but if the novels are anything like "Strangers When We Meet" (gulp) (showing a bit of age there!) I can understand the addiction! When I was mid teens I read that book and couldn't put it down, mind you I read it during class as well!! lol. I couldn't tell you who wrote it, but they made a film based on it which stared Kim Novac and Kirk Douglas.. the film was a smash but as so many times happens, didn't hold a candle to the book!!

Hopefully one day you won't be so busy or you will be able to enjoy a good read, sometomes it is easier to watch a film than read the book but both are enjoying anyway, just the book takes longer to get to the end. lol

I loved Danielle Steele I have read several of her books and I loved Jackie Collins and John Grisham. I can't say I have ever read any of James Patterson but I will look into what he has written. I am always looking for good books to read.

I have not read any of Joan Collins books but think I may have one somewhere around here amongst the many! I had not heard of James Patterson either until recently and have found it is quite a change as I was always an avid reader of Danielle Steel but the change is nice.

Thinking ahead is not such a bad thing. lol I get confused a little if I started one without finishing the first and sometimes this happens if a start a book straight after one I have just finished and wonder where such and such a character is, only to realise it was from the last book! lol

I was addicted to Danielle Steel, but don't have time to read all that much lately. Now I read Robert G Barrett. A good aussie author with his good Aussie language. Cure the addiction, or keep going with it. Either or.

I have read some of Sidney Sheldons' but have not heard of Fredrick Forsythe, but will keep an eye out as always like to have new names on my reading list. Danielle Steel is more in the romance line of reading if you just want a change.
