What does he think of Windows Vista? Would he recommend the upgrade?

XP is the best by a mile...
I did not try Vista yet... but it will be full of bugs for a year before they get it right.
Win 98 was shocking... even with all the updates.
XP is the only one which does not crash or run out memory. Its memory management is automatic and fantastic.

I'm afraid to buy a new PC because they come with Vista. I'm going to keep my XP for as long as possible until Vista can prove it won't act like a bratty step-child.

I am sure that any shop will be happy to sell you a new computer with XP if that is what you want.
You only have to ask for it... and insist on it.
If they want to make the sale... they will give you what you want.

I have had very good luck with the Media Center edition of XP. I did not have as much luck with the Home edition of XP. It kept crashing and would not install the service pack 2 - I am not sure why, either. I used the validation software from the Microsoft website, and it showed to be a valid copy of the operating system.
