depression - is a sense of uselessness, a down-and-out felling of "being a failure who deserves to be punished"
workaholics are among those more often afflicted with chronic depression, expecting too much and trying to do too much, they "fall apart" and feel guilty when they fail to "hit the mark". and even if they do hit the mark, they usually end up overstressed and burnt-out.
what to do when depressed
1. get a ballpen and a writing pad and start writing down:
a. the names of persons who care about you but whose friendship you have overlooked;
b. the name at least one person who, at the momemnt, must be looking for someone who is willing to listen. see how you can reach him/her. remember you are not alone in your pain
c. the name of one person whom you can trust and who trusts you enough to listen to you.
2. shake a leg and find a way to reach that person. bring you pain out of yourself by "talking it out" with someone who is prepared just to liste - without interrupting, without judging, without probing and without advising.
3. make a choice, and take charge. you have already begud to do this if you followed 1 and 2. you may add other small and apparently trivial decisions like taking a shower, dressing up and looking good. do something good to yourself, like watching a happy movie or dinning out with a friend. then do something good to another person, like visiting a bed-bound patient in a nursing home or a lonely prisoner in a local jail.
4. if you have reached this stage, congratulations you have already begun to bounce back and are just about ready to move on to reflect quietly and pray.
