Nasty Trends At The Burger Joint

Back in the day, a burger, fries, and cola weighed in at about 650 calories. But today's fast food industry is all about supersized offerings, with extra fries and massive beverages. These gigantic fast-food bombs can nudge up on 1,800 calories! Calorie for calorie, it's less expensive, but what people forget is that we don't need that much food. Our bodies are certainly not burning up [calories] at three times the rate. And the choice of supersized foods could be better. People should be getting supersized servings of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, not meat and fries. Also remember that burger joints also offer some healthy alternatives. Consider getting a salad or yogurt instead of the burger. You will certainly be happy later.

Fast food is exactly that, and convenient for many people in this day and age of fast living. It's just too convenient to pop into a fast food joint and pick up a burger and fries with the huge drinks they offer; all laden with calories! We pay the price in the long run, but what is it doing to our children? We really need to take stock of our eating habits.

Yes Abbey, I would have to agree completely with you it is not good at all to go to these fast food joints and due to this my daughters fiancee aged only 21 had to have major surgery so it is important to keep away from them.

I totally understand where you are coming from. When I was 15 I worked for McDonald's and the sizes for sodas were as follows: happy meal 6oz, small 8oz, medium 12oz and large 16oz. And there were no free refills. You actually got about 2oz of ice and 4oz of soda in a kid's meal. The average kid's meal in a burger joint is around 550 calories. That is more than 1/3 of total caloric intake of the average ADULT and parents feed this to their children 2-3 times a week. And the nation wonders why we have a childhood obesity problem in the US.

When we go to McDonald's Ross has the lot , burger fries and cola , hubby has fries and I go for a crunchie mcflurry , I know the mcflurry is a lot of calories too but it is my treat for the week , I hate the look of the burgers all soft and floppy and the lettuce is all damp and warm yuck!!I just hate to think what kind of meat is in it , When I eat meat I like to cook it myself then I know what is in it , You put me in the mood for a mcflurry now lol , thanks pal xx

Humm, that was food for thought. Hehhe. True too. Thanks for bringing it up. If I may add, the older we get, the less calories we need too. So these fast foods are a "no no" to everyone, young and old.
