Religion - The Great Divider

Growing up, back in our grade school days, I was thought in school that having a religion and keeping a straight path will be the key in making this world a better one. Today as I watch the news on TV, and as I see all these conflicts generated by clashes in religion and beliefs (wars in the middle east, terrorism etc..) I begin to wonder, if all the things that I've learned in my youth is still true. Its turning out that Religion divided us instead of unifying mankind. Does God put us all in this world just to think and do things to obliterate/annihilate each other? Help me on this.

Go to the roots -(= read words and old texts which were originated when that religion was "new born")- of every kind of religion and I'm sure that you'll see that no founder of any of religions around the world wanted people to make war or to attack anybody.
Yes, these days there are some sentences in some kinds of religion, that are trying to make people to do so, but they were added much later than this kind of religion was born - I'm sure with it.
And so there is no one wrong religion around the world - but there is a lot of misunderstanding of it.
And lots of people aren't able to differentiate between what was told at first and what was told much later, and usually by somebody who wanted to exploit the religion for one's own benefit.
And this is the "goal" = the thing which should be teached at every school world-wide - to prevent any next misusage of religion and to STOP every misusage of religion which was caused by anybody in former times.
