Marriages are filled with a lot of small rituals and traditions. for eg: the throwing of the bride's bouquet at the end of the wedding, wearing something blue at the ceremony by the bride. In India, we have a typical ritual. The girl's family steals the shoes of the groom, hides them and then the groom has to give money to the girl's cousins to get his shoes back. Its not for the money but is just one of those things that have become a tradition. its a lot fo fun too. I would love to learn about the marriage customs and traditions in your country. Please share.

You're talking about the north Indian customs, but there are plenty of traditions down south too! For eg, did you know that in Kerala, marriages get over in less than 10 minutes?? And in one particular caste in Tamil Nadu, the husband is supposed to bend and hold the toes of his bride, as she walks! The shoe stealing custom is never followed in South Indian traditional marriages, maybe occasionally now, due to the glamorization of the custom in all movies.

I knew of the Kerala marriages. A friend of mine is a keralite and he said they have mass marriages in temples that get over in 10 minutes.
