Have you ever moved far away from your home state/country/or town?

I have moved 200 miles from my original state and hometown. I made this move almost 2 years ago. I have 2 cousins as far as family goes where I am now living. At first it was so hard for me leaving my 2 siblings, my son, mom, aunts unlces and nieces (10 nieces)I still miss them dearly but keep close contact with them by phone. (Thank God for free long distance!) I visit them about 3 times a year and they also come to visit me. I found that in my new home town I have made many nice friends. It seems I have lost all contact with my friends from my original hometown except for two of them.
I made this move to be with my boyfriend who owns property here.
Has this happened to any of you? Do you still keep in contact with childhood friends? Did you move because of financial burdens? Or relationship status? Are you happy with your decision?

oh. i've tried that before, too... live in a boarding school away from my parents when i was in college. the first few days were difficult. but after meeting friends and feeling at ease at the place, i felt okey with it already. plus the fact that my parents visit me atleast once a week did not make me feel homesick a lot.

I moved right after school - To ireland - a whole new country! I did it coz i needed a change and some experiance - also wanted to practice my english. I went ba ck home after a year. I met a guy from turkey, and after 3 years with him we moved to turkey - again a new country. I stayed there until we broke up - probably about a year. Now I am back home in good old sweden. I have no regrets at all and i would do it all over again.

I have lived in NYC my whole life and just can't afford it anymore. The rents are too high. It is just too expensive. I am planning to move to FL where I will have more of an opportunity to own something that I can afford. To spend a thousand dollars rent for a small studio apartment I could get a whole house down there for the same money and maybe even own it one day. The only thing that scares me is adjusting to the change, I am a city person and I don't know how long the transition will take. I guess I just have to do it because I can't keep struggling like this anymore.

Oh I hear ya about expenses! In CT it is the same way. Our mortgage here is only $230.oo a month. Which is nothing compared to the $1,100.oo a month for RENT back home in CT. Florida is beautiful I don't know if I could deal with their hurricaine season though I find that pretty frightening. Yes change is hard to bear But Florida also has big cities so you may like it there. Good luck Howard and thanks for responding!

I have moved several thousand of miles from my home and I do not regret it. I have made some nice friends in my moving around the USA. I come from a small island (Puerto Rico) and most of my family is there. I keep in touch with by telephone and e-mail.

I once moved to North Carolina, I became homesick and after sticking it out for 3 months I packed up and came home. It's weird because I honestly hate my hometown and have no reason as to why I wanted to come back other than because this is where I'm comfortable. And I really hated having to take the ferry to get anywhere, I lived on Moyock Island.

I once moved to North Carolina (Fayetteville).
I think I stayed there for about a year. I was in a very bad realtionship then and gave up on the realtionship to go back to Connecticut to my family. I really liked in in the Carolinas though.

after college, my first job was in another province... too far from home. i worked there for two years but i always try to visit my parents and siblings atleast once a month. it was really difficult to be away from them. but i wanna try to live on my own and earn on my own, too. i did it! hehe. but i returned home after two years due to terrorist attacks in that province.
i will also move to sweden to be with my boyfriend sometime this year. and i am excited about it. we planned this long ago and will just happen this year. and we can't wait until we can be together again.
and yep. i do have communications with my friends all the time. i am even able to meet up again with my gradeschool classmates last month and we did really have a nice time together. thanks to friendster.com - where we always have updates about each other.
have a nice time!

My wife and I moved from Suburban Detroit Michigan to our place here in Minnesota in 1975. We were BF & GF back then. The main reason was due to the fact we wanted to live together and her mother was against it unless we were married. the family I was living with didn't really have room for one more. Plus my dad had the farm up here, I had a cousing here also. So we packed our things and hitch hiked from Detroit to Minneapolis. I think its like 800 miles or so I can't recall. But it was a fun trip and we've been in Minnesota since 1975 and are not planning on moving anytime soon.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

My father is in a transferable job. We have to move a lot. When I was in school, I never spent more than two years in any one place. Every second year, new school, new friends, and new people to meet and new places to visit. It was good for sometime but after some time it became a pain. Now we are settled at one place.

I grew up as an army brat-so lots of moving. It's hard to keep track of people sometimes. I love to travel, so moving doesn't bother me-in fact, the open road feels more like home to me than home ever did. Some might say that's sad-but, if given the choice, that's where I would be.

I left my country when I was 26 years old. I went from Europe to North America. Since then I visited my family almost every year but never went back to live there. In the beginning I was planning on returning there once my studies were finished but then I got married to an American and moved again from Canada to the US. I guess I am staying here now.
I mostly keep in touch with my family and my friends via telephone and emails.

I am 1,654 miles from home. I am from the Philippines but I'm staying here in Saipan, CNMI for three years now. I left home to work and and to fulfill my dreams for my family. Honestly, even if my husband is already here with me, I still feel homesick at times. I really miss my family.

I moved several times. As a teacher, in Portugal I only got a place far from home in the 20 first years.. I teached in 5 different towns. Now that I could continue to teach in one school of my town, I decided to move to France to live with my husband that works here. But I always go for some vacacion periods to my home town and meet my family and friends. We also continue to talk in msn and phone. The only thing it was difficult for me was feeling that my kids would rather stay back there, but now they began to think that it was also good for them.

I moved from the USA where I am from, two years ago to live here in Nicaragua. I enjoy living here but I miss my friends and family. Having a different culture is one of the hardest adjustments for me. My husband is originally from Nicaragua and he has family here and in Costa Rica. We talk about going back to the USA but would have to pull up stakes here, which for some reason seems to be more difficult than it was when we moved here fom the US. I might be here the rest of my life and then again, I might be moving within the next year or so.

I moved 3000 miles from Ma to Spokane Wa. in April of 1990. I moved back to Mass in Sept 96 because I had broken my leg and was basically bed ridden to avoid having to need surger. I at the time was running a group home which I had to close. The state would not help me and it was 1200 dollars a month rent for my 6 bedroom home. Back to mother I went. I then moved a town over from my mom but after 4 years living there. Then it struk me Flesh Eating Bacteria. I was in the hospital from Nov 2000 until March 01. Then I lived with my mom with a visiting nurse twice a day for a year. I'm still here but long to be elswhere.

I have moved many times when I was growing up so I never really had any close friends, and now that I am grown and married I don't really know anyone and I have lived here a long time.
I think it would be great to go somewhere and start over again,
Maybe I will get a chance to one of these days but I don't know.

I have moved so many imes I hardly know where home is anymore. My family moved us around when I was small and then I kepr up the habit because it seemed normal. I don't keep in touch with any childhood friends, but I do keep in touch with a couple of high school and college friends. It's hard now because we all live so far apart and all have families and full lives, but email helps.
Our last move was several years ago because we were handed a golden opportunity to raise our children in a wonderful village. It has worked out very well for the kids but I miss my own family.

Yeah, It happens to me I have moved 300 miles from my family. I made it almost 9 years ago. It is for my own sake. I'm staying at my autie's house to continue my study. I really missed my childhood friend, my relatives, and my family. I still keep in touch to them. I'm happy to moved them, I become independent. Yeah I'm happy to my decision to move my hometown I finished my study and have own family now.
