I know the new Megadeth album, United Abominations isn't actually out until May (at least in the U.S.), but it leaked a little while ago and I got it sometime last week because I wanted to hear it sooner. After I got it though, I didn't listen to it right away, (obviously, or I would have posted this earlier) but I wish I had. This album really blew me away and exceeded my expectations. I love Megadeth, and I have enjoyed almost of their releases, but this album might be their best one since Countdown to Extinction (I know some of you will say "Blashphemy!" because of songs like She-Wolf), but this album just has some of the best guitar I've heard from them in a while. There's just something that really stands out about it. The song tempos are also generally a little bit faster and more energetic than before.
Have you heard this album yet? I'm sure many of you heard the Gears of War single, and that song is definitely a good one, but it's actually only one of many good songs on this release. It might be my favorite one on the album, but I've only listened to it once at the time of this writing, so I don't know.
If you have heard it, what do you think? Am I overenthusiastic (even if you do like this album a lot, I think the answer is "yes" lol)?

I heard about this album a while ago. I'm not a huge megadeath fan, I was in their heyday, but I generally don't go for things that hard anymore. However, last I heard Al Pitrelli had left Savatage to join Megadeath to work on their next album. Al is a fantastic guitarist and musician, if he's associated with the album I know it will be good, and I also know I'm gonna have to get a copy as well.

I knew there was something different about the guitar. I haven't actually listened to Savatage, but I'll definitely check them out. This album basically seems like a transition between Rust in Peace and Countdown to Extinction. It's not as thrashy as Rust, but at the same time, it's more energetic than Countdown, and the guitarist frequently does cool solo-ish stuff during the song verses, like they did in songs like Hangar 18, for example.

I looked it up, and Glen Drover is the guitarist on this album. Al Pitrelli was with Megadeth from 2000-2002, so I think the only album he was on was "The World Needs a Hero." It's an okay album, and it does have some really good solos, but I don't think it has anything like the new one. I like how the new one has lead stuff all over the place, not just in the big solos. The only thing is that I don't know what parts are the Glen Drover (or on TWNAH, Al Pitrelli), and what parts are Dave Mustaine, since Megadeth does a lot of those "trade-off" solos where both guitarists do cool stuff and swap back and forth.
Thanks for the recommendations, I'm going to listent to some of those Savatage albums.

Firstly I have to say, I haven't listened well the new album. But at first listening I didn't like so much. I think there is very similar to previous album, and there are some riffs that are similar to rust in peace. Anyway I think it is better The System Has Failed album. I don't know..maybe listen again to the new album I will like more. When I listened The System Has Failed the first time I didn't like very much but listen again lot of times and most of all after watch their tour live playing the album live I loved it very much as all their previous albums! I'm a great fan of MegadetH they're one of my favourite bands with MetallicA.
By the way: she wolf is a great song ;) I love their old album but I love even last albums that most fans dont like as Cryptic Writings, The Worlds Needs An Hero and so on. I will tell you more when I've listened better the new album!

I think I like more The Words Needs An Hero compared to the last album. Maybe it is because I like Al Pitrelli style, and there, there some of my favourite songs, Dread and The Fugitive Minds, Return to Hangar, Moto Psycho. By The way, have you ever seen live acoustic of Megadeth? It is the best acoustic live I've ever seen! You should see it! Their songs acoustic sounds very well!
Check it out! this is my favourite acoustic song!

And there you can find other acoustic videos about them!

I can't say I like it better than any of their old albums either, but I like it a lot more than some of their newer ones (like The World Needs a Hero). I just like that the songs are generally getting a bit faster and that there's more lead guitar stuff in this album than the past couple.

I love Megadeth and look forward to getting this disc and when I do , I'll post another comment and let you know how much I love it , cause I know I will. Well, it's certainly not too late, especially since I don't even think the album has been officially released yet, so you're still early :)
I really, really wish I could've gone to Gigantour. Had I known about it when it was going on (and not a year later, lol) I would have defnitely gone. Even if it wasn't very near to where I live, it would be worth it to drive a long way to see Megadeth, Symphony X, Dream Theater, and Nevermore all in one concert! Well, maybe that was the '05 lineup. I don't remember the '06, but that would have been really cool too.

I have the album, while it is really good, i don't like the new version of "a tout le monde." it sounds very pop-like. while the song is not bad, i'm not too fond of its new sound. however, if released to mtv or vh1 or any of the pop music sites, i'm sure it would be successful and broaden megadeth's audience

Yeah, I'm not too thrilled about that song either. I don't hate it or anything, but it does seem a little unnecessary to do nothing but add female vocals to an older song. I like the original more, although I still prefer their earlier work above any of their newer stuff (even this latest album, although it does rock).

Yeah, their style has changed over time, and I agree that they had some awesome albums back then, (Rust in Peace is my favorite without a doubt and of course I love Peace Sells. . .) but I also love Countdown to Extinction as well.
