These kids are horrible...what could you have done?

Last night as I was giving myself a pedicure, I heard laughing and screaming noises outside our house. Intrigued, I decided to go and see what the fuss is all about. To my horror and dismay I saw six kids age ranging from 5-7 years old, surrounding a little kitten screaming and shouting and poking it. One of the boys held the kitten and asked his playmate to put the kitten under a car's tire so that they would see how the kitten would react if its foot got run over. Another one suggested to kill it by dumping it in the sewer, while the other one threatened to put it inside their dog's cage. The little girl was screaming "the kitten might be lost and is looking for its mother"...but the boys did not heed that...they instead laughed out loud (horrible laugh) and continued to imitate the kitten's meow horribly while laughing. The last straw was when one of the boys picked the kitten and tried to suffocate it by placing a plastic on its head. I screamed to stop and run to them to grab the kitten. I shouted at them telling them that what they are doing is wrong and that if it is done to them how would they feel? I swear I could have spoken to their parents but apparently these kids are from a different neighborhood.
If you were there what could you have done?

I would have done what you did and did in a similar situation(it was kids picking on another kid). You should keep an eye out for them, an alert someone if they come back. Alert their parents the proper authority in your area, whomever but someone needs to know about these kids.

Thank you. The next time I see them around again I will do something. I will notify our roving guard in our area.

Our World sure is getting crazier by the minute. To think that kids that young could have that much hate in them to physically harm an innocent kitten boggles the mind. In my opinion, you did the right thing by saving the kitten.
What pity you didn't have a camera or camera cell phone, to have taken their pictures and send copies to their parents, the police and school.
There has to be something wrong in our society, when the seemingly innocent among us could be that cruel.

My thought as well. This world is getting crazy. And I do wonder where all that hate came from.

I believe the saying that 'It takes a village to raise a child'. I would have done my part! :) But seriously, when I was a child, that was how it was, just about everyone in our neighborhood had permission to spank us!! And if a neighbor had to get onto us, we got a second punishment when we got home!! OUCH! The way I see it, if a child knows he can get in trouble by another adult,(no matter where he/she is) as well as their parents, they won't do things like that, in fear of someone seeing them.

This is the most ingenious thing you could do. I salute to be able to do that :)

That is horrible that kids would do that to a poor defenceless kitten. You did the right thing hun, and as the kids were from a different neighbourhood you did all you could. I can not believe how kids are so different now a days as opposed to when I was a kid. I love animals and I could never imagine someone trying to kill it or joke about such. That is so disturbing.

Yes I was pondering what could have made them cruel. This is a sad sad event.

That is horrible. I would have been very disgusted in those boys hearing that story. I would have done the same thing as you. I can't believe that they were talking about doing something like that. I always use the example to my daughter also if she would like something like that done to her. Hopefully it got them thinking. I hope that they don't really do anything to any animals and are all talk. But good for you for stepping in and saving the kitten.

I felt like I was hearing little demons speaking. Little kids saying horrible ways to die is disturbing.

I would have done the exact same thing - how awful!!! I cant belive these children as young as they were would want to do harm to anything! What is this world coming to.
I would have mentioned that the police could have been involved and that it was a crime what they were doing and scared them ~~ I would have gotten their names and pretended to call the police and then see their reaction - I bet they wouldnt do it again.
I am just glad that you were there to stop them - Lord only know's what else could have happened.

Thats such a shame. Kids can be cruel sometimes, I would have done the same thing as you because you dont want them to hurt the kitten. I guess finding the parents probably wasn't plausible and I dont think they would have hung around while you called the police but maybe the little girl could have told you who the kids were. I think that in these types of situations the parents do need to be notified. Maybe the parents could then have the kids talked to by the rspca or something?

Yes you are right. The instant I snatched the kitten from the boy's hand they ran off. Apparently the little girl is also their playmate and she ran off with them. Perhaps she was the sister of one of the boys.

This makes me angry, Kids see too much violence on t.v, movies and in video games and think that they can get more thrills with torture. I would have did what you did but I would have called the police too and had them have a talk with those kids and find out where they lived and had the cops contact the parents.

Yes of all people I wish they weren't like that for they were just kids. I wonder where they learned to do such cruel things.

That is so awful! I probably would have done the same as you and went to rescue the cat. I also would have called the cops on the little brats just to scare the crap out of them. I wonder where their parents were and what they were doing out alone in the evening...this is so sad and this is how people grow up and are awful adults. Take care, and, where is the cat now, may I ask?

Oh my gosh! I can't believe that children could be that cruel. I would have done the same thing that you did. I love cats and I hate to see them tortured or hurt, especially deliberately. I think I would have also gotten their names, their parents names, and their phone numbers. Then, I would have contacted the animal control officer and aske them to have a talk with the children, and see if they might be able to spend a Saturday working with homeless animals in the pound, or something. I can't believe the way our world is turning into such a harmful environment that children resort to such activities for fun! I am sorry that you had to witness that, but I am glad that you did. What did you do with the poor kitten, is it ok?

Well I will probably do what you have done and I will go on and take a visit to the little boys families and talk to them about what they were doing. The incident only indicates that the little boys were full of violence in their minds. I think they were seeing too much of violence without enough guidance. However who am I to judge, that's why I got to go visit their families in order to know why those little boys act that way. And I will tell the families to give more guidance to their kids. We should avoid more violence from the future of those kids.

Yes I do agree with you. Perhaps some people here would know where those boys live and from then I think I could contact their families to let them know about their kids' behavior.

this is so ugly scene where my participation would be to save the kitten first by sooing away those children and then to look after it until i find her mother.
children are horrible especialy those from low class.
the narration of the event gives me a pictue that those children are from lower class as if they lack proper education and love.u should have snatched the kitten and gone to fire those children's paraents for their carelessness in educating them properly.

Yes I took the kitten. Heaven knows what they could have done if I just let them have the poor thing. I would have spoken to their parents but since they are from another neighborhood so I would forego it for now. But if ever I encounter them again I will surely call the police. Thanks for the comment.

I would have definitely gone out and taken the cat..and cell phone in hand would have made sure that a polic car was in route...Those kids would have gotten a scare from a police officer that they wouldn't soon forget...It starts with cruelty to animals and progresses to agression against other people...

OMG I can't believe the boys would do that. Well sadly I do but I don't want to believe it. I would have done like you. I would have rescued the kitten and talked with them.
From that point on though I would have done things differently. I would have had them sit down on my porch or front yard and made them call their parents to come get them. If they weren't from that neighborhood they shouldn't have been there to begin with at that age without an adult near by. When the parents got there to pick them up I would have let them know exactly what they were doing. And I'm sorry but if any of the kids tried to leave before their parents got there I would have called the cops. Let them deal with it and let them find out where their parents were doing all this. I know it's harsh but what they were doing was very wrong and if not stopped now who knows where it would lead to.

i would have yelled and put the fear of god into them and probably kicked their butts, i would definetly have taken the kitten off of them and then got in contact with their parents, if i ever found out that one of my kids did something like that to an animal i would kick their backside till it was blue and any do gooder that has a problem with it would get theirs kicked too.

I sure hope that their parents knew what they were doing. And I certainly hope that their parents do not do the same thing to animals. The next time I see them again in our neighborhood I will alert our homeowners association.

That was a horrible thing to have seen and heard. I think I would have called the police and told them and given them a description of the boys since you don't think they belong to your neighborhood. Those boys definitely need to be taught a lesson. If they would do that to a kitten there is no telling what other horrible things they might get in to.

Yes it was such a horrible thing to witness and here. It seems like I was watching little demons. I can't believe that kids as young as them could have been so cruel.

I would have gone and taken the kitten, and found out who they were, and I would have called or gone and spoken to their parents, or called the authorities to go talk to their parents. As we have all read or heard, being cruel to animals often leads to the way they treat people.

I would have gone ballistic. I would have taken the kitten off them, checked them for identifying marks, and reported them to the polivce then and there. The neighbourhood they are from couldn't have been that far away. I would have, and have done, busted litle monsters like that. How else will they learn?
How was the little kitten in the end?

I agree with you. A study that was conducted some time agon metions that one of the common characteristics of serial killers is that they have killed an animal when they were still young. I do hope these kids will not turn out that way.
